It is time to start transitioning our high tunnel greenhouse into our winter chicken coop. We have to remove the trellis hardware as well as the drip irrigation tape before putting in the chickens.

I'm 72 years old, not in good health, living alone with very few resources. I grew up on a farm in Eastern NC (until I was six or so), and get my family & farming fix from you guys.

I am 73, grew up in a farming community (not farmers but was welcome guest on neighbor's farm) in eastern North Carolina (Knightdale), also live alone on very limited income, and, knock on wood, am in pretty good health as long as I take my meds, do what my doctor says and ... I too get my daily fix from watching this channel and other homesteading/farming channels. So hello, nice to meet another traveler.

This is not very accurate. We only know what Justin has chosen shown us. Its our choice to watch or not. We can NOT go to his homestead without a proper invite on his terms. We need to respect Justin, his family and their farm. He does not know us. We are strangers to him. If you have looked at the general population of the internet you would not want most of these people around you, nor the Rhoads family. Respect is very important. An artist wrote a song about his interaction with his fans. He asked people to understand this relationship as it is. "I can't pretend this stranger is a long awaited friend" - Niel Peart Buy and enjoy Abundance Plus, but always respect the people you are learning from.

Love all the farm training your kids get but curious if you can share how you do your home schooling. With so many going to homesteading I think a vlog highlighting this, what program you use, etc would be so helpful. Thank you for all you do .

if you spiral the tomatoes up the string, you won't need the plastic clips anymore. That's what I am doing with my tomato plants over here in Germany and it works really good not only for me but also for many market gardeners in my region.

Justin, I don't know about everyone else, but I think the learning aspect is a bonus. I watch to see two parents raising their children without all the drama and setting the examples that I wish we all could follow and hope to emulate. Your interaction with the kids, and their genuine love of you ,Rebecca and each of their siblings is inspiring. How to butcher an animal is just cream on top.

Rebekah had the best idea of a tool caddy. Being able to move the tool station to where you are working is awesome. Even in a working space of 10x10 it is amazing how quickly you grow to love being able to bring the tools to you. AND I converted my tiny 7 x 12 greenhouse to a winter chicken coop after watching you do that last year. I only have 10 chickens and a goose so I have the greenhouse set up with deep bed of chip then I used one of my 100 ft electric fence lines to make a surround around the greenhouse so they had some ability to go out and enjoy sunshine every day. I would have never thought of this myself, thanks for sharing all of your great ideas.

My husband told me to not plant onions and garlic in the backyard because they are poisonous to dogs. So I landscaped my front yard with onions and garlic BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS!...Edible landscaping like the Garden Guy. Tomatoes and Potatoes are not poisonous but I heard their green leaves and flowers are not good for chickens, so glad I see you are removing most tomato🍅leaves and pepper 🌶leaves and putting down wood chips. 🚜 👨‍🌾 👩‍🌾 🚜 👨‍🌾 👩‍🌾 🚜

I signed on with Abundance+ from the start. I don't get YT notifications like I should and frequently have to seek my peeps out individually. Today on YT, two of your videos just showed up from 6 days ago...frustrating. I would love to homestead, but as a senior widow, I think I've passed my window of opportunity. My Dobie is good company but not too good at offering a helping hand. Lol. She likes to "help" in the garden...she gathers and eats, while I gather double time to get it before she does! Lol. Feel like the Rhodes family and Sowards family are my extended family. Glad to see you getting around better, Justin. Hope to meet you all some day.

ive been in old chicken coops that were built to last well over 50 yrs ago,and they were used for years beforehand. Wherever you put chickens, their waste smell stays forever. We would dump bleach on the floors in the winter when working inside moving boxes because the coops were used for storage.

@littleedenvalleyfarm8165

It needs fresh bedding of woodchips and it is easier to put in with the tractor while the animals are out than it is to wheelbarrow in when the chickens are in there since the tractor would freak them out and issues of them escaping.
@ericcawith2cs11
@ericcawith2cs11 3 жыл бұрын
It's not good for them, but my chickens wouldn't eat the plants at all anyway, just the fruit. Also you shouldn't leave the plants there just to compost, as it can harbor diseases. So tomatoes are best being pulled and composted in the woods not for the garden use, or to dry and burn the plants and you could pour the ash on the garden.

This went on all summer. Mud all around the hydrant. I finally undo it to keep it from freezing and I find there is no washer in it! I put one in it finally. Not so much mud! I am kicking myself for not checking all that time ago. My husband doesn't check and doesn't even know what I'm talking about when I tell him about it.
