I decided to try my hand at turning Persimmon again. Still hard as a rock, but I had the benefit of having my new Grizzly 10" Wet Grinder to help with touching up my gouges.
I did have to dress the wheel square to the tool rest but a simple wheel dresser I had on hand did the trick: amzn.to/2qkzsuS
You can get 10% off the Grizzly T10010ANV 10" Wet Grinder by using the code "Walker10" at checkout here:

I turned a few persimmon bowls. The stuff smelled terrible, very bitter. Apparently it tasted the same way as my young daughter tried to gross me out by licking my arm which was covered by sap and dust. Wish I had the faces she made on film.... Didn't notice it was any harder than some of the others I have turned. It is in the ebony family...
@wmwalkerco
@wmwalkerco 3 жыл бұрын
No way, it's robohippy! You taught me a lot when I first started turning. Thank you for that. Persimmon is one of the hardest domestic (to North America) hardwoods. They used to make golf clubs out of it. It is indeed in the ebony family. It's also known as "white ebony". Ive got a few on the property. The fruit is apparently somewhat tasty. Horses love it.
