Today i am turning an old and rusty useless FILE into a really enchanting and very sharp Dagger knife.
There are some quenching flaws in the blade.

There are some Quenching Flaws in blade because of my high temperature furnace. In future i'll improve my preheating of Quenching oil Process and i'll get an Electric furnace to remove these kind of flaws so ignore them today and enjoy the video. You'll need to know what kind of steel the manufacturer used too. Otherwise you're just guessing on how to heat treat it.

You appear to have your burner facing into your forge from the front. That seems to cause quite a hot spot in the back of the forge. If that's the case, that's where your problem is. With the hot spot in the very back like that, anything in that area will heat up considerably faster and with the tip of a blade having so much less mass than the rest of the blade, it will reached non magnetic way before the rest of the blade is even warmed up good. You should drill a hole in the center of your forge and feed the burner in through there instead. It will bring the hot spot further forward and the tip can be kept cooler longer and give the rest of the blade time to heat up. A good even heat is what you want when heat treating and with the current set up, you'll never get it. Great looking blade though. If you can get that heat treat down, you'll put out some very fine work. Good luck.

Really great build! You might benefit from putting also heating up another piece of metal and quenching it before quenching the blade, only to bring the oil's temp up. That can help reduce the risk of cracking.

To prevent pitting of the brass during sand casting, you should pack the sand down very hard. Make sure the sand is clear of any obstruction as this will create more pits in the finished product. Good job, nice build.

Same as he did with the edge except instead in using some random bit of metal just scribe it with the calliper. Also instead of using a grinder near to the end he, should have just used the belt sander and eyed it regularly. There was issue's with his hardening, should have done another normalising cycle and get it hotter (cherry red) for the quenching into preheated oil. And finished off with a tempering cycle in a over for an hour at 200°c (colour should be light straw colour) which stop the blade being brittle.

Prolific Invention , there are different laws in different states, daggers are pretty well illegal, 4” is a general rule. I got stopped for a rigging knife on my belt in Hawaii. If you are camping you can get away with a Bowie. Full spring knives are illegal. They don’t make that much of an issue about knives because you don’t bring a knife to a gun fight. But you can get kicked out of school for having nail clippers.

@@johno6861 All true, although I've been carrying a sheathed knife on my belt for 25 years that some would consider a dagger, however the few times I've interacted with police it was a non issue. Also spring assisted knives were recently legalized in the state of Michigan (so was Marijuana!)

There were a couple of things that made me cringe and that was how unstable some of your equipment is. However you have an extremely artistic eye and to freehand something that symmetrical it's almost impossible yet you did it flawlessly! Very very good with your hands. At first I was critiquing the holes and the imperfections in the blade etc. however with that type of knife It reminded me of the Roman Colosseum which I would expect to have some character flaws

That is a pretty knife, I see you already talked about the things on the blade, but I would like to pay attention to the holes on the guard, due to the casting process. I don't wanna annoy you, but I see this as a very high standard knife, and those details make a difference. Still, that is a fine knife, good job, keep it up Btw, what material is that white and black parts of the handle?
