In America, we say "timber!" as a warning when we are felling a tree and it is about to fall. :D That Allen key trick with the chuck is awesome! Thank you for that. Manufacturers should add rubber tips to the ends of calipers.

Thanks for the heads up, Nick. That's a great idea if they came up with the rubber tips. Cheers for leaving a comment and feedback🤝 Kezza

@@KerryCorney You could dip the tips of the calipers in "Plasti-Dip" if it is available down under.

Another nice video, Kezza! I really appreciate the real time turning and don't mind the speeded-up sanding. That really is a spectacular looking platter. Such detailed grain. That bead is a nice touch. I tend to clean those up shape them with my small skew. Just curious, how flat is the inside bottom of that platter?
@KerryCorney
@KerryCorney 4 ай бұрын
@@qapla thanks so much, mate. Yeh, I figured everyone has seen sanding before and not really interested in it. The platter is flat. If anything ever so slightly raised towards the centre. Hope you have a great weekend, mate. Kezza

Camphor can be absolutely stunning like this piece or very dirty grey and uninspiring. Great instructional video Kez. Why don’t you use coffee grounds to fill up cracks and blemishes. Looks great and cheap as. A little ca to set grounds hard. I could manage a piece of hardwood that size. Are you after anyone to send you some or only those that have already asked. Thanks for sharing

Thanks so much, Greg. I totally agree. Some pieces of Camphor have been, well, a little disappointing. I made a video on using coffee grounds and still use them for sure 👌 looks nice and natural. For sure, mate. Send me an email through the contact form on my website👌 Cheers, mate. Kezza

Hi Kezza. Love the camphor laurel - really spectacular grain. I get a lot of tips from watching you turn. You obviously know which gouge will perform the task you need as you swap from one to another. Lots of practice and observational skills on your part. On the subject of the camphor laurel, I picked some up from a roadside woodworking place in central NSW. It must have come from deep in the heartwood of a really old tree. I haven’t seen figuring and chatoyance on anything like it since. The guy told me that that is caused by the colder weather and he tries to source his wood from as far south as he can. Have you ever come across this from your experience? Cheers mate.

Thanks so much, Neville. I always try to include different tools and substitutes for those who may not have what I do, and vice versa. It keeps me on my toes too 😎. I’ve heard similar things about Camphor being sourced more inland due to it being drier and stressing the grain more. I’m not sure if this is true or just an old wives’ tale, but it sounded like a good yarn. Let me know if I can film anything for you in future videos. Cheers, mate, and have a great weekend. Kezza
