Make sure you pressure or smoke test the air system, they are infamous for turbo leaks 😂 easy to access with the engine lowered

Looks great! For future reference, you don’t have to drop the engine and remove the engine brace to do the belt. Makes sense to do it this way since you had it out anyway though.

Are you sure it was the camera? SD cards use TLC NAND flash memory which can only be overwritten so many times before it wears out (unlike a spinning HDD). How long have you been using that SD card? You might want to get a new one as well so its NAND cells are fresh. Also, ALWAYS KEEP A BACKUP OF YOUR FILES!!

I agree. I have used SD cards in multiple high erase rate applications. Using industrial grade cards are recommended. More robust and support more erase cycles.

Not doing the thermostat is like not doing the water pump when the engine was out! Don't make the same mistake twice. And you really need to use a torque wrench. All it takes is one error and you will snap off a bolt head, strip the threads, or the gasket won't seal correctly. Do it right once. For the brakes get sebro rotors and hawks pads.

Hey Matt, If you want to stick to standard action cams, I recommend the Osmo Action 3/4. I made a switch to the Osmo Action 4 from the GoPros I had (9, 10 & 11) and no regrets. Better battery life, much better UI, better low light capability, awesome mount system saves time when moving the action cam from one mount to another, the touchscreen actually recognizes your finger, you can charge while recording, continues to record in hot temps (turns off screen to allow continued recording), iOS app is somewhat good. For 360 cams, I would recommend the Insta360 One RS with a 1 inch sensor only (pricey) over the cheaper Insta360 X3. I have the latter and its video/photo quality isn’t that great, not much detail and noisy unless is perfectly lit conditions.

Bet u couldn’t wait to start putting that car back together. I sold my ‘02 turbo silver & terracotta from Cali to a guy in Philadelphia back in 2008 he said he just sold it with 100K miles on it last year. And I just had the composite water pump thermo, fuel filter, plugs, coils & those rubber coolant seals on those arms all replaced last year for a smooth $12K.

The thermostat is a nightmare. I had to painfully remove it twice with a tiny 1/4” ratchet, extensions and wobbler. The 996 turbo uses 10mm bolts vs the inverted torque on the 997. I ended up also replacing the o-rings on the crossover tubes on the bottom of the engine.
