I lived in the Canal Zone as a little girl and went to Balboa Elementary. It is such a beautiful country! Love this!

What an inspiration. We often feel we need to spend a lot of money, but she has the right idea to use what is available.

How beautiful to see. I hope to do the same. Our food deserts desperately need this.

OMG!!! Elise, I was at your "Cooking with Unique Florida Heirlooms" and I was going to say "Arroz con Guandú y Coco" as my example, but for me it's not new. Anyway it's really easy, you put rice, guandú, unsweetened coconut milk and water in the rice cooker and let it cook. It's delicious. It's much better with fresh pigeon peas from the bush than the canned Goya variety, but either way works. Of course the Goya peas don't come from the garden. I'm so glad you visited my homeland 🙂

I cook gandules frequently, and con arroz is my fave. But please elaborate on the coco, that sounds delish! It was absolutely stunning there, we fell in love with the country. Especially Boquete, although I am much more familiar with growing in the tropical PC conditions.

Wonderfull! I live in Boise ID on just shy of 1/2 acre. I've been here 11 years and have been creating a Food Forest. To my knowledge there is only one other here. If you are in my area I'm on Linden St. Not going to give you the # but it will be self evident LOL Hope to see you.

Ha, thats one of my fave things to do. Not have address when I go to a clients house and see if I can pick out the food forest : ) We travel frequently, ya never know!
