My first ever computer build in 2018 was a 4th gen HP pavilion swap. PC had a Memphis 2 motherboard that was a standard called uATX and it wasn't this difficult to swap because it fit a ATX case just fine, I only needed some jumper pins to get rid of the warnings on boot up but everything else was a breeze and just worked. I remember the case was made by Deepcool and I had a GTX 1060 in it and i7 4690 16 GB ddr3 1600 it gamed pretty well. I eventually sold it to this farmer at my yard sale who had kids, it went to a good home and was well loved I'm sure. :)

Even though the motherboard is proprietary, still uses micro atx board that can fit well with those cases and irregular screws. Its not just dell or their optiplex's they do this with, All the other OEM brands like HP, Lenovo and others adopted the proprietary design for the systems.

I took the old office pc from work. It had an i5 4570 in it. Yeah.... it bottlenecked a 1650 super. I'm not the one to use that word for every situation. But when the cpu is maxed at 100% and thermal throttling while the gpu is only at best, 50% utilized... There is a major bottleneck.

Dell is pretty annoying in terms of upgrades, I tried to upgrade my Insprion 3668 and literally everything had to be dell supported or it just wont work, as well as not having an extra power cord for a GPU from the original PSU, so I couldn't put in a GPU I was gonna get, CPU fan has to be their dell crap or it will complain, Power button has to be theirs or it will complain, RAM is stuck in single channel mode regardless of what anything is done and won't accept anything higher than 8GB (otherwise all it will do is flash an orange light), CPU also doesnt fit despite it being similar to what it already had. Because of it being a slow difficult to upgrade POS machine, I have gotten a CyberPowerPC which is a lot better and takes upgrades like its nothing, It accepted new ram like nothing happened. Great video of turning that pile of garbage into something somewhat useful!

Am I too weird that the one thing I like the most about these office PCs is how the actual case looks? Good fun video and I am glad everything worked out in the end. A bit too sketchy for me to do anything like that, it would ANNOY THE HELL out of me knowing that some things are not "perfect". I guess something is wrong in my head. Does it natively support Windows 11 or did you have to do anything special when re installing it? Thanks for a fun video and F to Dell indeed for all the proprietary things.
@crimsontechyt2 ай бұрын
Thank you! :) It natively supports W11, since it has a TPM 2.0 chip on the motherboard.

@crimsontechyt26 күн бұрын
The WX2100 should just fit in the case normally, without requiring a new power supply. It only needs 35W, so it can easily handle that :)

the biggest problem with this build is the motherboard. propriatary. the back I/O sheild is part of the original chassis and it has the front USB. I would have left it in the original case. the new chassis is one brand I've never heard of... I'll have to investigate that brand... pretty chassis with the mirrored glass...

It doesn't work, since i couldn't connect it. You could bypass the error with an Optiplex power button adapter, but that needs to be bough. It's only like 2-3$ on aliexpress though :)

Simply incorrect. I pull those for every swap or customization - literally reinstalled 2 today. Simply place them in, pulling from inside the case all the way through until fully inserted. Line up the fan holes, and pull through. Since they are flexible they are easily grabbed from the space between holes on the fan and pulled outward until secured. Simple and easy, 30 seconds of work.

🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ No, no, no....just no. The first and smallest issue was leaving the I/0 shield out. The next mistake created your biggest mistake. The SATA data cables should go into the blue port for your boot drive....that's dev0. By not doing this, you blocked the top GPU lane - the 1080 will fit in that top lane if you just plug into the correct data port.
@crimsontechyt9 күн бұрын
Hi 1. The IO Shield was part of the Optiplex case, so I could not remove it. (I showed this in the video) 2. This did not affect speed or function, so this was fine 3. The 8-pin Power cable blocks the top PCIe lane for GPUs longer than small form factor, which is why I slotted the GPU into the second slot (which I mentioned in the video)
