Not really a FAIL, just a bump in the road and a slight learning curve. Keep improvising and learning.

Probably smaller door too. Stronger draft with smaller door

Exhaust pipe from a large diesel engine should work good for a chimney, I think it is 5in. The door should fit tighter and have an adjustable air intake vent.

Thanks for the tips! I got stove piping from Lowe’s and that’s a mod I definitely need is a air intake.

Definitely not a fail mate! One thing I would do though, is make sure there is a good fireproof seal around the top of the stove where the flue joins it. Great upload! Cheers, Dave.

It's is still a win, because you learned that you will have to have a more substantial chimney. Plus, I was imagining that if i were to build a chimney for a stove I would have done the same thing. So you still taught me something valuable. Just found your channel and I'm loving it

That looks like a good little stove. Your short cut on hanging the door is exactly how I've done it. You can't miss that way. If you can find some good scrap yard truck exhaust pipe you'll be able to put all the heat you want through it for cheap.

I built one from an old pop up camper frame...still learning how it burns...being able to control airflow is vital especially in a small area such as a cabin or camper...getting ready to build a propane tank stove now...ooh the options...

Nice!!! I thought it weird to use something like that outdoors. I didn't know it was for the cabin.

Great video. It's not a fail, just an idea that needs some adjustments. Nothings a fail until you quit trying. After you get your stove set up in your cabin, you can add a great sink in the form of some dry stacked bricks around the back of the stove. If you leave a bit of a gap between the bricks of each course, the great can soak in better. The heat sink will help to make the cabin more comfy and save you time and wood on fire tending. I have a video called "Cheater Mass Heater" that I did some years ago to help show folk the concept. Keep up the great work

It seems the wood stove itself worked pretty good. Just have to get the correct stovepipe. At least you realized it before you needed it. 😊

Get the black pipe from Lowes or tractor supply its light and would be easier to carry if you wanted to take it to the woods I think its 6in and they have a damper that goes in the pipe I think its like 12 bucks that's not a failure lol 😉

Add 4-6" of steel collar on top before going into the thin stove pipe (weld it into place, no welder use your L brackets and seal it with high temp caulk) that should reduce heat to the thinner pipe. Side note: I would add a baffle (heat shield) inside at an upward angle just below the exhaust (should prevent flames from entering the chimney too much. 20# propane builds can be tricky adding accessories. For example adding a secondary combustion chamber 😂 don't forget your stove legs 🤙🏼 all and all looks good, keep up the progress! Farmstead On

not a failure at all, it taught you you need a better pipe :-) you may want to think of putting a baffle plate in your stove. It will burn more efficiently and likely spare yr chimney a bit as well. love your saw

I would drill some holes all the way around low on the can. As for the chimney I would have it go straight up no elbow.

you need to cut at least 2 four would be nice square 2x2 cut outs at the bottom of the tank just above the ring on the bottom of the tank for a draft also take a 1/4 inch or bigger inch drill bit and go around the tank and drill holes at random also for a draft

I know this is a DIY project but, there are better options for indoor wood burning stoves for cabins. At some point I can see you upgrading to a hot tent and these types of products are already designed for exactly for this setup. Safety is paramount especially if you are planning on sleeping next to it. Stay safe!

How about some legs. They could be made from bolts. The right sized nuts could be welded to the bottom of the tank. When transporting, the legs can be unscrewed and stored inside the tank.

What diameter pipe was this? I'm currently making a lay down tank style and was going to go with 4". Looks like you used 3"? I want to make sure I got bigger than what Is in the video. Also, I believe you used aluminum pipe in this video. Aluminum has a much lower melting point than steel. Not about thickness. I see on the other comments you switched to black pipe which is much better, I have used HVAC ducting with success as well(the shiny stuff). Black pipe is like 24 gauge and HVAC is 28-30 depending on box store, but they are both steel. Had it glowing cherry red multiple times, for an outdoor oil burning heater. Feel really brave when you are outside and it can meltdown with no problems. Bring it inside? I'd be a little sketched out. Just another material you can try. But black pipe is absolutely better, just more costly. I believe 2ft of black pipe same cost as 5ft of rigid HVAC ducting.
