Hello there! Today I am finally making a dress inspired by one of my fav gowns in the MET museum. This whole build took about two weeks of squeezing in time between work and classes, and I couldn't be happier with the results! Thank you for watching, if you liked this video, please consider visiting my Instagram, TikTok, artbylgo.com, or my Patreon to help fund future projects.

you may wear sweaters and wear reading glasses, but have you passed the ultimate Dad test? Have you forgotten the names of your children's friends even after knowing them for years?

You and your dress are adorable. You are also making great memories. Some of my best memories are of making Easter dresses for my nieces when I was still in high school. Love your Dad cup too!

when you flat lined the sleeves you consumed the seam alowance you had to close them arou d your arm that's why the ended up a bit smaller, hope this helps for the next project!! 😄

The sleeves (in your first purple one) are pinchy because dresses back then were made to force good posture. They were intentionally pinchy to force you to keep your shoulders back. Adjusting for modern wear is great though. Love both!

You're defo #1 dad material. Just a few more dad jokes at unexpected moments and you're golden. Anyone who says otherwise is clearly jealous of your dad sensibilities. Also every time you mentioned angle on the fabric my thought was, "I can be ur angle or ur devil 😈" because honestly matching angles while sewing a garment is a pain. You did an amazing job!! Congratz on a cool dress! Also props on fairly well paced editing and sound quality. You're doing seriously 10/10 great! Wishing you all the luck going forward!

Great work, that dress looks really good! FYI: The pattern you used is from Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion no. 1 (1660 to 1860), it's called "Polonaise dress with detachable embroidered lawn ruffles" 😊 Have you considered making pocket hoops/paniers to support your skirt? They're quite easy and fun to make Also, I love your sword collection (from a fellow seamstress who loves collecting blades!

The bit you showed of the pattern? That looked like one of Janet Arnold's books to me....not that its "essential information" but good to know, especially for all of the text she included.

Im making a chemise a la reine out of lace curtains! No pattern. I have completed a dual underskirt and 2 seperate overskirts. Starting the top today. I decided to make seperate pieces to mix and match with other outfits.

Had fun doing a comtouche dress in a Costume Class myself. A good friend who was brilliant in doing RenFaire garments helped me to balance the skirt over the panders and we worked the bodice together to be sure the entire dress was balanced. I have photos of it somewhere because the dress was stolen several years later. I wish you loads of luck working at the Met!

@@artbylgo Dreams can come true; just keep doing what you're doing. Actually two of my instructors at FIT worked at the Met (Costuming and Millinery), but if you don't mind the suggestion, I would suggest you learn Costuming. You would be surprised at what you can make out of anything! The best way I found for me to do that was to get involved working with a Theatre group and being involved with the SCA when it comes to RenFaire. (SCA is The Society for Creative Anachronism. I have some great books stashed that they have written on medieval life, foods, jewelry, etc.) Also see what your local theatre schools might offer. I found there's a world of difference between fashion design and theatre design in sketching and garment execution. The most fun I had was turning a shower curtain into a stage costume for "Kismet" and putting a guy in an empire dress (hard to get him OUT of it later). Also, scifi conventions are an eyeopener! Some truly creative people are involved there as well and their professions in real life are across the board. I met a woman there costuming who was an engineer on the Mars-Pathfinder project. You can do this; don't limit yourself and go after that dream!

aaaa thank you so much for making this! first you look beautiful, second ive been trying for ages to find someone who made a robe a la francaise (yes i know this anglaise and not francaise, but still, 18th century elegance etc etc) out of cotton and not silk, because i would love to make one but also. do not want to spend 300$ on silk taffeta lmao haha
