Welcome back! In this video, we're crabbing for Tanners, AKA Baridai crab. It's looking good so far. We set a few pots too deep, so had to retrieve them using a grappling hook.
We offer all of the fish we catch on our channel directly to the consumers. We handle all of our catches with care to maintain the utmost quality of Alaska seafood. You can visit our website here to check out our selection of excellent wild-caught seafood.

If satisfying for viewers, it must be that with huge relief for the men to see such bonny catches come aboard! I hope Mother's OK; we don't see much of her but she too is an important link in the chain.

Len and Anita, I'm absolutely loving these videos. I remember when yall bought the Fish Tale, and all of the work that you have put in... and now the new boat!!! It was always fun hearing you were doing with rockfish, talking gallons per hour, talking halibut and yall being truly kind people. I can't believe it's been 6 years since my knee injury took me out of the halibut game on the Anna D(and Dan sold it too!!!), but I can believe how well yall are doing! Take care, many blessings, and thanks for all of the great shots and great fishing to make me miss kodiak- maybe one of these days I'll see you up there again!

OMG. Jeff with a G! How we have truly missed you friend. Didn't realize a knee injury is what kept you away from the fishing scene. Just figured you had other things going on. It looks as though you are doing well also, and what a beautiful family you have. Hope you guys can make it back up this way, if so give us a shout! Until then, best wishes and take care!

I notice the the different head wear choices of the 3 stars of the show when it is cold. L, who may be in the wheel house more, goes for warmth without compromising vision or hearing. Matt protects the integrity of his glasses from the elements with a peaked visor & retains the ability to listen. T, who might be the irregular, extra-hand that helps out the primary team on the boat, goes for hood up weather persistence.

Hi guys! I just had you show up on my feed so I've been watching from the back to front. I'm in 🇨🇦 I send greetings to all of you and I thank you for not being one of the Big Boys outside. I grew up crabbing on the inside passage between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia. I love crabbing, I never did it commercially but I ate a lot of Crab growing up. I appreciate the lack of Drama you seem to be a family crew? You run a happy boat and that is always good. I had never heard of Tanner Crabs before so this was good for me to learn.

Hi Kerry. Thanks for joining us. We are a family crew and have been fishing our vessel together for some 20 plus years. The yelloweye is very delicious and we sell it for more than the cod. We can only retain it as bycatch, so usually not much to go around and it sells fast.

Those were some good clean crab. I hope you're getting a good price for them! It's always a pleasant nuisance to need to walk carefully on deck because there's money running around on it. You might need to source a bigger tote lol.

Can you put tracking devices onthepots?
@BarryBarrington_
@BarryBarrington_ Жыл бұрын
No, most radio waves get blocked by water and adding sonar or lasers to the pots is expensive. But they do attach buoys on ropes and track them on the GPS.

Hi you guys! I have been catching up on the tanner season after getting my internet back. I have a question. In the pots you have what seems like a hanging bait bag (a scent incentive perhaps?) then there is the hanging fish bait (that makes sense) but... what is the sealed plastic jug all about. Out here on the East Coast in NS (Canada) where lobster is the big fishery we just use a bait bag in the pots. Great stuff from a great crew! So blessed to have your boys with you!
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska Жыл бұрын
It is also ground up herring and salmon. The jars keep the bait from washing out as quickly , releasing the scent over a longer period.

How does the licensing or permitting for crab catching work? Is the boat licensed or is the captain? Also, is the crab quota fishery wide or per license or permit? Can anyone get a license or are they limited in any way?
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska Жыл бұрын
This fishery is Limited entry, which means you had to fish during qualifing years to get a permit or buy one. For State managed fisheries the license can only be owned by an individual and is not tied to the vessel.
