Most of our parents would look at Kennedy’s parental dynamic as not okay: divorced and mother who looks on dating websites. But in reality I’d rather the in that place than overly strict with my kid. Yes strong rules is fine but by allowing your kid to be open and not judging them(and also allowing them to see you make mistakes too) that’s what I think is such good parenting. I envy being that parent where my kids feel close enough to talk to me. I want to be their best friend and parent. Idk if that makes sense but I just know that I didn’t grow up in this setting and it sucks not being able to talk to your parents openly

I agree. You have to find balance between being your child's best friend and a parent. I grew up in a strict household as well, and I can't wait to do it the right way and avoid the mistakes my parents made. I want my own family to be comfortable enough to talk about anything, to express our love for each other, (we never say I love you or huge each other with my parents) and to just be comfortable around each other. Being a good parent can also heal your inner child and help you heal from any trauma you've endured as a child yourself.
