Tips from an ex-makeup artist: blend the edges in with liquid latex and put a base of brick red down on the prosthetic and then apply the layers of foundation over that red layer, the red layer is a bit daunting but it makes the prosthetic more realistic as it acts as blood underneath the foundation giving the piece more natural look. Layers and stippling are everything in SFX makeup.

A prosaide cream would be better than liquid latex for blending out the edges (bondo even better but that’s less readily available to non pros) Also recommend using a stiffer brush, like short flat eyeshadow brush when going in with the alcohol to blend out the edges. As this is a silicone prosthetic going in with the brick red is less ideal as you want to retain some of the translucence from the silicone as that closer resembles skin, flicking alcohol colours would be the easiest way to add the dimension without adding too much of a solid base of colour

Also I'm not 100% sure pros-aide is the best adhesive for silicone, since that's for latex/foam latex. Silicone doesn't stick to anything but silicone, and the only adhesive that really works for it is something called Telesis.

@@Strampunch I've used prosaide on silicone prosthetics before, with reasonable success. Also keep in mind that this is a plastic-skinned prosthetic, so the adhesive is sticking to the bald cap plastic, for which prosaide is a good match. Especially for something like this, which is just for a few quick photos and taken off again, you don't necessarily need the long-wear permanence of Telesis. But under other circumstances, yes, Telesis is a good adhesive. Another silicone-based adhesive is Smooth-On's "Skin Tite" two-part skin safe silicone adhesive. But again: not really necessary for this situation.

@@TSIRKLAND That's fair! the only research I did was for a long-wear thing and I was advised to use Telesis. This was a few years ago and I don't think Smooth-On's "Skin Tite" was something the store offered or knew about (which sucks because damn, Telesis is/was expensive). But thank you for the notes! I would love to do more work with silicone prosthetics, so I'm definitely writing all of these down for the future. Any advice on how to blend edges as well?

Sfx artist here, if you’re planning to do this again cut holes in the nostrils so you can breathe through your nose since you didn’t glue the whole prosthetic down (which is totally fine if you’re just wearing it for a short amount of time), also instead of using latex to blend the edges use more pros-aide with a small sponge to dab around the edge.

Sometimes projects don't go the expected way and we have to push through our tears and our need to just scrap the whole thing...
