LOL I am sure I have some old footage like that someplace of when I first started, makes ya laugh at yourself to see you didn't know what you were doing, hands on learning at it's best, Thanks for sharing Rod, have a great weekend, thumbs up as always

lol, the old hammer and screw driver... oldie but goodie! Quite the learning curve back then... I had no idea what I was doing, but I had watched a good amount of Carl Jacobsen videos, so I approached it with the confidence of a tool wielding couch potato! 🤣

Thanks for reviving this old one, Rod. It was an enjoyable watch. I enjoy going way back in people's uploads to see how much they've changed and grown since earlier days.

Rod, Most interesting. When you were turning the outside of the bowl it appeared to be giving you a fight like a 600 pound marlin on a fly rod! I never have seen resin put on a show of reluctance like that since I started watching turning videos. Your end product is extremely pleasing to the eyes. Thank you. Keep the aspidistra flying! God bless, Paul

haha! Thanks Paul! It was the hard plastic bowl I used as a casting form that gave me fits. All good though, lessons learned the "hard" way!

A blast from the past to see the old Jet lathe. I will have to tell my kid sister about that mask. She has developed a frightening reaction to cutting her grass in the past couple years (wheezing and losing her voice). Thanks Rod!

Thank you Rod for the trip down memory lane. I've been turning for about ten years and made every mistake in the book including breaking my wrist when a piece flew off the lathe. The one aspect of health I care about more than any other is my lungs as I lost a few friends from lung disease. Those dust masks seem to be of very high quality and I won't turn without wearing a dust mask. Semper Fi.

Thank you very much, my friend. Sorry to hear that. I was very undisciplined regarding masks and lung protection when I first started turning, another lesson learned over time. I'm glad to now be able to represent a quality mask. Be well and Semper Fi

Good morning, Rod. Watching a turning project is a good way to get the day started. I have fixed a lot of stuff with a hammer, great tool. Saving shavings, absolutely the thing to do. In the end, a great bowl. I have been working on the shop, not turning in the shop. Needed a major overhaul. A slow process but who knows, I may find an old partially turned bowl to work on later. I enjoyed your video. Also, my mask arrived a few days ago. Looks like a winner. God Bless. Semper Fi

You couldn’t have said a more true statement protect your lungs guys! I didn’t I’m now dying from fibrosis caused from inhaling airborne toxins from wood and metal working I had been turning wood from the age of 8 I’m now 60 won’t see 65 so guys protect your lungs and eyes and ears we only have 2 of each and they are all you get 👍🇦🇺👍

Really appreciate the footage at the start for the failure-to-eject 👍 What went wrong? Plastic melded with the resin (incompatible plastic type) ? Cured toooo hot? Or... ?
@RHumphrey
@RHumphrey Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! It was either too little amount of mold-release applied prior to the casting, or incompatible hard plastic. Not sure, but I've never used that type of plastic again.
