3, 2, 1... Bethesda Fountain is back on! Big thanks to the incredible #CentralParkConservancy team for their year-round care, making it possible for New Yorkers to once again enjoy the full splendor of this iconic landmark!
Did you know Bethesda Fountain holds deep historical significance? It commemorates the opening of the Croton Aqueduct, which brought clean water to NYC in 1842. Back then, clean water was a lifeline for New Yorkers, bringing healing after years of disease outbreaks.
The mission of the Central Park Conservancy is to preserve and celebrate Central Park as a sanctuary from the pace and pressures of city life, enhancing the enjoyment and wellbeing of all.

Here's a note from "The Central Park Lost Mitten Party" about The Angel of the Waters Sculpture dedicated in 1873 created by sculptress Emma Stebbins, who is considered to be the first woman to receive a major art commission in New York City. (Her brother, Henry Stebbins, was at the time president of the Central Park Board of Commissioners.) The Angel holds a lily in her left hand and steps forward with her left foot. Underneath the Angel are 4 cherubs representing Temperance, Purity, Health and Peace." Visitors worldwide enjoy this gorgeous landmark. Thank you Central Park Conservancy!
