It's obvious that you guys are super knowledgeable about all this technical stuff, but for some reason, the way you explain everything, it makes me feel like I, too, could take on projects like this. It's like you're explaining with us, not at us, and showing the process of trial and error. So different from other channels that come off as so expert as to make the projects look too technically complex for most people.

My advice when drilling holes, a lot of people make this mistake, pick your pilot drill bit to be no bigger then the small point area of the final drill size. Some call it the chisel part, call it whatever you want but if you have too big of a hole then you end up doing all the cutting on the shoulder of the bit and it will dull it fast. Also maybe look at buying a set of transfer punches, when you put your plate up there and used paint to mark the hole you could have clamped the plate, chosen a 5/8 or whatever size the hole is in your plate ( I forget) and then tap tap tap tap, all nice centred holes to be drilled after you remove your plate. P.S. I enjoy your builds!

Initially I thought you guys were too ambitious and would not be able to complete the land or the dump truck. But I was wrong. I think you guys can do it. My people clear land, build trucks and run welders. But we all wear greasy T shirts and look rough. You folks are clean, neat, California people. None of that suggests you can build a dump truck. I look forward to being surprised at every episode.

Dude I've done this type stuff my entire life, plus I tried real hard to take care of myself/body. You keep this up and you'll be a cripple by the time you're 50. At your young age it will catch up to you very fast. Not trying to throw water on your parade here. But consider your body and all that physical mechanical stress you are placing upon it. When you can choose to use a mechanical advantage like you did with your Backhoe. Have ya'll thought about maybe installing a Gantry Crane ? Fairly cheap and easy but can lift a-lot. When I got older and felt the wear and tear from years of abusing my body, I learned very quickly to employee a mechanical advantage everywhere I could. Good Luck with your many future projects, I very much admire and enjoy watching all of your videos. That Pioneer spirit still surges through your veins.....

What's the make on that plasma machine and would you recommend that? We use an old school setup no computer involved..

It was certainly a challenge moving the bed with the tools we had, but I am so glad we were able to make it work! The cab of the truck has air ride and is shockingly comfortable, just incredibly loud! The table is from Arclight Dynamics and I would HIGHLY recommend them. Great product and even better customer service to back it up. We have run the table for 5 years now without only two minor issues that they helped us get fixed before the days end.

Can't wait for part 2! what are you guys doing for insurance and licenses? Are you just getting a class B, if so what's the cost and is insurance a killer for a private dump truck?
@AmbitionStrikes

It is registered in Idaho as a non commercial, commercial vehicle. Because the GVWR is under 26k we do not need anything more than our Class C license to drive it. We have it insured for personal use only through Hagerty and the rate was very reasonable!

Geez, I envy you guys. I always wanted to build something like your barndominium. Luckily where I live in mi. I had bought a older gas millitary deuce that is a dump. Snd an old cable crane digger. This old friend of mine would see these things just sitting in old fields and stuff. Someone would dig a pond and just leave them there. When he first looked at the old crane or ( trench hoe) the rear wheels were sunk halfway down in the ground from sitting. He got it started, went to move it and snapped a rear axle off. Luckily we knew an old man with an old junk yard with parts and fixed it. He took his little john deere Dozer over there and pulled it out. He also found old farm trucks that were sitting that had dumps on them. The owners all just said, " if you get it out, its yours" my old neighbor got them all running. He had given me an old chevy dump truck also which I used the old crane and dump to move sand where I needed it. The army truck also has a wing plow on it that's probably 13 ft. But it has been broken. Down. My health took a bad turn and its sit for about 5 years. I scrapped the chevy dump but still have the old hydraulic cylinder. Which has a pto hookup right on it. I think my neighbor turned it with a big drill, that's how easy it works. I dumped 5 yards of wet fresh dug sand into that dump truck,cand it raised it like nothing was on it.

The last, I saw the truck was hauled off and dropped where you could drive it to your house in SoCal. What was the problem with the brakes? This inquiring mind would like too know!
@AmbitionStrikes
@AmbitionStrikes 2 жыл бұрын
Having it towed actually helped the brakes start working again! We think the calipers were seized from sitting on the coast for a few years, and the action of the tow truck applying the brakes for 40 miles worked them free.

okay I'll admit, I didnt think the Sawzall was gonna cut the frame, but why not use the angle grinder to make the cut?
@AmbitionStrikes
@AmbitionStrikes 3 жыл бұрын
I try to use the portable band saw or the sawzall as much as possible and avoid the grinder. Griders are dirty, loud, hot, smelly, dangerous, etc and I just prefer a tool with a blade. With the right blade, a good amount of pressure and slow speeds a Sawzall or Jig saw will cut steel really well. The portaband is the real hero, but it's big and awkward and doesn't really fit well in most tight spaces. Thanks for watching!

Are you guys living in CA? because it's kind of really hard to tell with all the fancy geography around lol. You guy's got a beautiful ranch, and the animals around give it a special touch.
