Turning Trash Into Treasure

"Trash to Treasure",
This video shows a discarded Murray lawnmower that is brought back to useable condition. This 3.5HP Briggs & Stratton 20" Murray lawnmower was left at the curb as trash .My good friend Werner spotted it, and was kind enough to recover it for me.

Wow, that looks like New Tom, Great Job. It's amazing how many of these get trashed for minor reasons. It's a Disposable lazy world out there full of People without a clue. That's where guys like us cash In!

I got one just like that years ago and ended up repairing and selling it 2 or 3 times, sold it to friends and such so I got it back every time they bought a bigger mower

Check the compression and leak-down to test rings and valves. Check for missing gov. springs. It'll prevent fast idle. Replace the diaphragm regularly. To replace the top seal, scree a machine screw in the seal and simply pull up. To remove the flywheel w/o puller holes, put a wooden block on top of the crank and hit it with a hammer while prying up. Brigg has a clutch tool and a flywheel holder set. Make sure you get the right flywheel holder. Clothes-line in the cylinder can be used to lock the engine to remove and replace the blade and flywheel nut. Torque the head bolts often. They loosen! Use a inch lb. torque wrench. Brigg has valve guide tools and guides.

I actually have the engine from it again, it was put on a different deck and I ended up getting it back to...

There's nothing wrong with that mower !!! I've basically got the same 3.5 horsepower engine on my mower which needs a rebuild (new rings), it doesn't start like that one, it is a 29 year old mower which runs an automatic choke & uses a different pull start, mine has the vertical type pull starter !!!!
