Exposure to trauma, and symptoms of PTSD, are really common in people seeking AOD treatment. Integrated trauma-focused psychotherapies that treat both PTSD and substance use are safe and effective, but there is a gap between research evidence and translation to treatment settings.
In this webinar, A/Prof Shalini Arunogiri will share experiences of how the team at Turning Point implemented a trauma-focused therapy (COPE) with support from North-western Melbourne PHN.
This will include reflections on how clinicians navigated the learning curve, how we worked with referrers and the community to better understand how to meet the needs of clients and services, and our hopes and wishes for future scaling and implementation, so people across the state can access similar care.
Associate Professor Shalini Arunogiri is a clinical addiction psychiatrist and researcher. She is the Clinical Director of the Hamilton Centre - the new Victorian Statewide Centre for Addiction and Mental Health at Turning Point, and Associate Professor at Monash University. She is Chair of the RANZCP Faculty of Addiction Psychiatry, board member for the International Society of Addiction Medicine, and NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellow at Monash Addiction Research Centre. She has over 60 peer reviewed publications and over $18M in research funding, following completion of her PhD in methamphetamine psychosis. Her current NHMRC investigator fellowship focuses on the integrated treatment of co-occurring trauma and addiction.
