Turns Around a Point // Private Pilot Ground Reference Manuevers

Excellent video! I remember that the greatest thrills that I experienced while practicing turns around a point before my checkride, was consistently flying into my own wake. Too, turns around a point are challenging, but _really_ fun to do, too!

See where the wind is coming from. Steepest bank , no more than 30 degrees, is downwind Wing tip is along that point. Constantly change your bank angle bc. The wind direction is changing when u go around because that is the maximum bank from the entire way around the point. Wind at our side is crosswind. If crosswind is from our left and we are turning left , we crab to inside of circle. If crosswind is right and we are turning left, we crab to outside of circle. Moving and adjusting is to keep going around and around that same point Do not fixate on point u selected. Recognize ur bank angle must constantly change as ur ground speed changes. Back to steepest again as u complete the turn. Use the rudder to stay coordinated.

I remember those maneuvers so well, but not as much as the maneuver for my commercial when my DPE, who was an aerobatic rated pilot demonstrated eights on pylons at about 60°. First thing he told me don’t try this at home. Those were the days.
