"There is a feeling I love' - when I listen to her music...
@Megera8511 жыл бұрын
If you know the background behind what fueled the songs for this album, this video makes a lot of sense. Her grandmother who she was very close to passed away. In the video, we see her alone, focused, creating, and chain smoking (when you smoke and you lose someone close to you, they kind of go hand in hand). At one point, we see hands that look kind of feminine, guiding her. Sometimes it looks like she's being followed. The cups start to radiate energy. I like to imagine that this resembles giving something new life and function in the midst of loss. Great video and I love the song!
@whales10 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I didn't get that at all. The scene immediately following the two sets of hands depicts something, at least I thought, blatantly phallic. The person who just caressed her hands is looking on, cigarette lowering as to suggest a thought, both put out their cigarettes and we see a magical dream sequence. I think those folks went off for a quick siesta if you know what i mean.

So some people are learning to direct videos, but you're clearly learning how to use written language, and the internet.
@ammonitelight6 жыл бұрын
The part you're talking about is where she's shaping a mug handle. It's not phallic once you know that. And the other set of hands are female.

I definitely thought this was about her dead grandmother. Glad to see I’m not the only one.
@emjaydeee5 жыл бұрын
Exactly! The whole album (Mug Museum) was a celebration of domesticity and the role of the matriarch and how this role is passed down to the next female elder following the loss of her grandmother.

I did a work pottery class five months ago as a work bonding session. I had recently moved to the area. In the car on the way home, we went past somewhere I recognised, where I'd met up with a dear friend on the way home and pointed this fact out to my workmates. When we got back to work, I found out soon after she had died suddenly that morning. As you'd imagine, this song and film clip are a very emotional combination. Love you Eb

You guys gotta hear her live version at Amoeba records, it's pretty damn amazing. Also, the ashtray reminds me of a line from the book, "Naked Lunch", where he sees an ashtray full of cigarettes and refers to that image as "a mosaic of lost time," or something along those lines. Always thought it sounded cool.

It alternates between 6 and 8, from line to line (in most sections of the song). No one playing it is going to count the ‘1’ at the beginning of a chord change as a ‘7’… that doesn’t make sense when you think about the composition of the song. Maybe it’s somehow easier to think of those alternating lines of 6 & 8 as being all in 7, if you don’t want to have to think about alternating between 6 and 8 as a drummer, but as a guitarist? Whoa. No way. (Or as The Crowleys said in the reply above me, 4, 2, 4, 4… but my mind just converts that to 6 and 8.)

@JamesRone7 жыл бұрын
I hadn't heard that song before - thanks for mentioning it, I really like it. I don't think I'd call this a ripoff. If Cate had heard it before, she might have borrowed a couple of elements (verse phrasing, descending guitar figure), but that's it. She uses similar guitar figures across her whole album, so perhaps Kim Jung Mi was a key inspiration? I always figured her main inspiration was Television, but maybe not.
@xaxdrummerxax7 жыл бұрын
ignorance is bliss for some perhaps. Keep riding the bandwagon brother.
@JamesRone7 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty mean-spirited reply. I'm not sure why that was necessary.
@caves44586 жыл бұрын
Sure, that's why Cate's song has metric modulation (1,2,3,4,1,2,1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4) and Kim Jung Mi's song is in common time. The chord progressions and melodies are also significantly different. The only part that is "ripped off" is the fact they share a similar tempo, instrumentation and a guitar riff before the end of the bar, qualities that are common in many songs and don't indicate plagiarism. I am a huge fan of both albums but to call 'Are You With Me Now' a rip off would be a poorly researched statement lacking in critical thinking and analysis.
