Side note: acceptable lubrication for this repair, oil. Whether it be sewing machine oil, 3-in-1, mineral oil or even 5W-30. Just apply it sparingly onto the spindle and place it back into the brass piece. Don't use silicone grease! Be nice to one another in the comments folks!

Hey thanks for this video! Recently got myself a JVC JL-A20 and the spindle was absolutely stuck, couldn't even spin it. Took me an hour or so of trying to pull it out after heating and applying degreaser to the screw hole. I wouldn't have known pulling out the spindle would be so easy like the video, it definitely helped me persevere on my own unit. Now I'm just waiting on the belt and cartridge to come in, in the meantime I guess playing around with a free spinning spindle will do lmao

Thank you! My Crosley C62 was constantly making a rocking/clicking noise and eliminating all elements to diagnose the noise it was the sticky residue from the spindle. A quick clean solved all the problems which were driving me nuts!

Thank you! My Teac turntable started to rotate slowly, ~25 rpm instead of 33 rpm. I changed the rubber belt, but it didn't help. Turned out it was the spindle. When I opened it, the greese (lubricant) was sticky. I removed it with some dish soap and applied new lubricant, and now it's 33 rpm! Yoohooo!!!

Mine stopped working the other day, found the belt had stretched out. But your video helped me with the spindle. Probably never removed since the factory. It was a fight to get it separated! But now it's clean and lubed, the platter spins super nice. Just waiting for the new belt.

Davey - Thanks for this repair video. I have an old Sansui SR-212 that was I'm bringing back to life. This has an auto return mechanism with a gear on the spindle, which caused a bit of challenge with replacing the set screw. But - back together and so far so good. Also the bottom cover was stapled, so took a while to get it off. Replaced the staples with wood screws. Again, thanks.

Hi Davey, thanks for putting this up. I bought my deck in Japan in 1971 when I was in the British merchant navy. marvelous piece of kit. However, it was put away in the attic in about 1992 along with the Sansui AU 666 amp, Akai X200D tape deck, Sansui SP1200 speakers and Sony TC 127 cassette deck. finally got them all out and fixed up and guess what, they all work great except for the record deck. Yes the spindle has seized. I undid the nut as per the video, however, the nut will not allow the tapered part of the spindle to pass through as it is of too small a diameter. I do not understand this. as on the video it just falls through. Any comment on what I can do would be most appreciated.

I haven't seen this issue on any units I've worked on (yet) so I can't say for sure what the issue may be. I'll have to look and see if there are perhaps some variations of models for the unit. Have you figured this out yet?
@geoffreysmith-v9u Жыл бұрын
@@daveytechca The only thing I can think of is to use a small abrasive stone and carefully grind the spindle diameter down until the nut slides over it.

I’m having the exact same issue with mine. I have no idea how to get the nut over spindle. It’s fully unscrewed and spinning freely at the base of the tapered section but will not slide through

I had the same issue with my SR-2050C and a seized spindle. I screwed the nut back down, turned it upside down, removed the set screw and sprayed WD40 into the hole over a couple hours to help unstick the spindle. I used a large flat head screwdriver to pry the chrome part of the spindle out of the brass part. I put a piece of paper around the screwdriver tip to prevent scratching the spindle. Once the chrome part came out beyond the width of the flat head I put a small wrench around the spindle and pried against that until the spindle came apart. Then I unbolted the brass part, cleaned, oiled and reassembled it. Hope this helps someone.

Awesome video. Jusr what I needed and exactly what my problem is. Any idea where I can get a replacement? Mine is completely seized up. Thanks.
@daveytechca Жыл бұрын
Have you tried doing what I did in the video? If it's that stuck you could try sitting it in some alcohol and it might loosen up the old grease. Finding a replacement probably won't be easy. You'd probably have to find a unit that is being sold for parts.

You need a Rubber Platter Mat

There's one on it at the end of the video. Guess you can't see it due to the record being on the platter.
