Hey there, kids.
This'll be my first retrospective and review that I'll upload on this channel.
Today we'll be reviewing Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, a 1997 classic game from the Nintendo 64 era that's very dear to my heart. We'll be taking a look at the Turok Remastered footage since it's the easiest gameplay to record at this time.
Quite possibly, I might do Turok 2 Seeds of Evil after this but I've got a ton more videos in the works.
I'd like to extend a big thank you to @longplayarchive for letting me use their gameplay for reference and to @yourfavoriteson for inspiring me in the retrospective genre and helping me out along the way.
Have a great day, kids. Take care!

I'm fiending for a Dino crisis 1 retrospective after watching this,despite it being a entirely different genre of game.

I thought about doing a dino crisis retrospective but I think "I finished a video game" did the series so much justice with his video that I don't have anything to add to it anymore. If you haven't seen his video you should definitely check it out.

Great video. I never read the comics so a lot of this was new to me. That's pretty neat knowing that the campaigner fought Tal Set once before. I always wondered why he was a cyborg. And something that stumped me was the keys, it took me years to figure out how to get the last one on Treetop Village. Where you have to jump on that small ledge from the bridge in the caves. I would always get to that part and would sit there for over an hour each time. Did anyone else struggle with this one?

A couple of years ago was playing through the trilogy on original hardware. Had a blast, beat 2 and 3 to 100% (played out of order, couldn't find the first locally), went to play the last level of Turok 1 and my memory card wiped :/ Great game, but I'm not gonna play it again until I buy the HD remaster. Great video! Really like your style and looking forward to more videos

If you kill humans with the knife, there is a change they drop a “mortal wound”, which gives you 2% health over your max health. You can get 125% health max maybe more. So knife kills are important.

I actually think I have some comics where Joshua fireseed is in. The series just kinda died, I guess. Didn't they try to remake it in 2008-ish?

Thank you for the great review. I remember playing this when it first came out and lived it. Never completed it though! I've started to play the remake on my Batocera Emulation System and noticed in the first level that they left out an area. There was a section where you're walking between the cliffs, and on the lef you was able to climb up to get a shot gun I think.

The remake is definitely worth it. I recommend getting the PC version as it's a fun quick paced shooter but unfortunately it's not that long. To be fair, you can play part 2 without having played this one as part 2 is the one where the story picks up. If need be, you can get the whole story from 1 off of a wiki page. Enjoy the game! 😁

There is a Turok 3, released for N64 exclusively in 2000. Nightdive Studios just recently announced that it will also be receiving the Remaster treatment and will be available on all major platforms this November.

@N.i.E.M.O
@N.i.E.M.O 9 ай бұрын
@@whitemage34 At the end of Turok 3, Adon argues with the council because she wants to find a way to revive (or 'save') Joshua, who was killed by Oblivion, but the council rejects her request. So she defies them and walks away as the council secretly gives orders to a woman named 'Evree' (who looks like an 'evil Adon' in the game) to take action. ... It would be nice to see a followup to this story thread, but it never came to fruition. Turok Evolution was a prequel that essentially destroyed the series (and the entire developer and publisher) for good.

@@N.i.E.M.O wee need a 4 or is that what Rage Wars was supposed to be
@N.i.E.M.O
@N.i.E.M.O 9 ай бұрын
@@whitemage34 Rage Wars actually came out between T2 and T3 and wasn't 'canon' (to my knowledge), as it was just a multiplayer-focused arena deathmatch shooter. But yeah, it would be great to see a true sequel to T3, but at this point it'll probably never happen. I'm pretty sure Disney still owns the right to the franchise anyway, and if they did make another Turok game, it'll probably be another reboot - unless T3: Remastered sells ridiculously well (which I doubt, sadly) and Disney takes notice and thinks it's lucrative for them to appeal to the old fans - but I doubt that too.

Um... Is it wrong that I think the Turok series in general holds up better than GoldenEye? Look, not to say GoldenEye is bad; It's also a great FPS that captures the frenzied action of a James Bond gunfight, but nowadays people overhype GoldenEye to such an extreme extent that they forget that before that, a much better game, with unique levels, more varied weapons and enemies, came out and showed that consoles could do FPS action... You know, TUROK: DINOSAUR HUNTER! Turok was, and IS a far more important, and fun game. GoldenEye just _cemented_ the fact that consoles (notably the N64) could do an FPS.
@N.i.E.M.O
@N.i.E.M.O 9 ай бұрын
Agreed. Goldeneye was groundbreaking for its time but has aged like milk. Turok on the other hand has certainly aged as well, but the more simplistic, fast-paced, run and gun gameplay is much easier to go back to today. I also always felt like the Turok control scheme on consoles was vastly superior to the default Goldeye controls on N64. It's so odd that so many people crap on Turok's N64 controls when it could be considered a proto-dual-analogue setup that would go on to become the standard for console FPSs. Duke Nukem 64 also used this control scheme as its default setting. Goldeneye's (and Perfect Dark's) controls were so archaic and sluggish that the game would be next to impossible without the auto-aim.
@thedadliestman
@thedadliestman 6 ай бұрын
No, I think you have a point. Turok definitely was in its own league but I think GoldenEye just had the brand recognition at the time. I was actually considering doing a GoldenEye review but there's so much said about that game already, I think turok was the better choice.
