@jaykb65876 жыл бұрын
Maybe you need another glue? Make sure to let it dry thoroughly, but don't leave it for an hour or so before using it. Then press it FIRMLY onto your nail. It shouldn't be a problem to get foils to transfer completely.
@SH1256 жыл бұрын
I have done it before and have done exactly what you said..came out great but didnt last longer than 3 days...now using it with gel and curing is totally different..i didnt want to mix the two (didnt want a disaster so to speak) i found doing soak off gels are easier for me. Trying this out will be my next design...thank you..i appreciate the advice..i will get some more glue and try again, i really like the fact that you can move it around a little to get it in the right spot ❤

It's stunning at first glance, but my OCD would never allow me to do this manicure. Cutting the foil in an EXACT manner would kill me outright. Never mind that the imperfection around the cuticle gives me a fit!
@jaykb65876 жыл бұрын
You can do this with a gold or silver holo polish and use striping tape over that. It works, but you have to carefully trim the striping tape before the tips of the nails give the same unevenness. But a careful buffing helps this.
@jaykb65876 жыл бұрын
Provided you have the holo striping tape .. about $1.00 on eBay.

My OCD tells me the easy way to get this to work is use the whole foil for the nail and skip cutting them in strips. Not quite the same effect, but it works for me. Pretty foil, though.

@glenda46056 жыл бұрын
Colette, I'm wondering if you take the foil over the cuticle, then gel top coat & cure. Then take clean up brush with acetone around the cuticle, if that would work to remove foil & give a nice looking cuticle. Same idea as clean up for NP. Beautiful nails!
@llamabeans6 жыл бұрын
Glenda Hartland Yes! I believe you're right - that would be the way to go, since foils are soluble with acetone.
@MSLP6 жыл бұрын
that might work - the problem I had was my cuticles were making the foils not lay flat, if the foils went past the base of my nail
@glenda46056 жыл бұрын
What if you took a cuticle stick & pushed the foil down onto the nail at the cuticle & then top coat & cure & clean up. There has to be a way to do this & not have uneven foils at cuticles. :) Now I am going to get my foils out & play :)
@heatherwelberry16 жыл бұрын
These are gorgeous but I suffer from OCD also and would never have been able to leave the cuticle areas as uneven as they were. I would have had to make sure they were perfect and that would have taken forever so I would probably just apply foil glue to the nail and this gorgeous blue foil as a solid sheet over the whole nail. Very pretty.

I noticed you used a no-wipe gel polish can I use a wipe-off gel polish or is there a difference for this because of the foils. Hugs and Blessings!

I wouldn;t reccommend the Unt as a base coat. Foi;ls soak off really easy without the Unt. Just use a regular base coat and the manicure will last longer. I love the idea of cutting them in strips and placing them on and how the light bounces off them.

1. So pretty. Literally my favorite technique. 2. Suggestion…get yourself a rotary cutter and a self healing matte (both at the crafts store). That way you can easily cut super thin strips, and you can buy different blades (like wavy or zig zag) for different patterns. I may have suggested this before, I’m getting older I can’t remember much anymore. 3. By Natasha kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHqUd3eggNh3r6s did this technique to do a diamond nail. It is my favorite diamond nail, because as you said, you don’t get the wrinkles. She did a holo base under the foil.
@MSLP6 жыл бұрын
I do have a set of pinking shears with different patterned edges, but I would love to get a rotary cutter & mat too. I checked out that video & it looks beautiful! I was thinking about doing something kind of similar but with several colors of foil.

I've never had very good luck with foil glue; I don't remember how many days I wore this but it definitely lasted longer than a few hours
@mrs.schrado74216 жыл бұрын
Love this!!!! The cuticles would drive me nuts, but there are always learning curves. This almost makes me want to get into gel polish. Almost XD Are you gonna do a regular base coat next time to make it last longer? It's just too cool to only have on for 3 days.
@MSLP6 жыл бұрын
I don't know about a regular base, because taking gel polish off the normal way is a huge pain (that I usually reserve for long vacations) but I have a new peel off base coming that I hope will last a bit longer
@llamabeans6 жыл бұрын

Ok, I have always been a natural nail girl. But I realize if I want to do foil or chrome powders, I'm going to have to give in to gel top coats & buy a lamp. It looks like that is the only way to protect the design & give it that 3D effect. But which is the best ?? There are 100 on Amazon, UV or LED or the combo lamp. What is with the wattage? Has anyone in the gel community figured that one out ? It ranges 6 watts to 56 watts. I noticed the price goes up depending on the wattage and all the fancy timer features. Colette, could we talk about this on your Twitch channel this afternoon at 2pm? I really need your advice before I pick the wrong one and waste my money. Thanks, BarbiDog (loyal subscriber)
@MSLP6 жыл бұрын
I think we covered most of your questions during stream, but if you have any more let me know or feel free to ask in discord - I don't really feel like I'm any kind of expert on the gel stuff yet, my experience is really limited
@lshulman586 жыл бұрын
Since the foil color only sticks to the gel on the nail, could you avoid the jagged edges at the cuticle by laying the strips further down, beyond the cuticle edge? No gel on your finger should lift the excess at the base the same way it does beyond the tip of the nail. As to top coat, why the gel rather than your regular shechvette?
@MSLP6 жыл бұрын
that's what I originally planned, but because of my cuticle/sides of the nail it doesn't lay flat enough to stick. Seche vite - and most non-gel top coats that aren't water based - wrinkle nail foils horribly and ruin most of the effect

OMG those are freaking gorgeous! One of my absolute favorites!! question I don't get it why do you have to cut them in strips? why can't you just put one on each nail the size of the nail bed? Really enjoyed the tutorial. Thanks for sharing PS I've noticed in the last I guess about 6 months or so is it my imagination or are you wearing your nails a lot shorter than when you started doing the tutorials? Just curious okay cool let thank you so much ttfn
@MSLP6 жыл бұрын
I think you might be able to do one piece per nail but it would be a different look - not quite as faceted if that makes sense? or it may be the strips allow the LED light to get in between and cure the gel ... I really like this look but I'll probably try a single piece sometime in the future

S.T.U.N.N.I.N.G.!!! I have seen a similar technique done by Lauren from Wildflowers. She did herswuth a silver holo base coat and then Lauren used the holo strips with the holo strips about equal distance apart from the strips showing the silver holo polish. I have done this with holo polish and Holo striping tape. The thinner, the better with the strips/Holo polish. It was a little different look from this, but equally beautiful... Hey, I did it. I Did It. I DID IT!! I tried reversing the stamps onto a second stamper. HOWEVER... It was definitely not as easy as you made it look... I have about 15+ stampers (I have a tendency to touch the bottom of my monocle stampers with stamping polish on my fingers... Replace stam
@jaykb65876 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Sunshine posted that... Anyway, I went through every stamper I had + most of my stamping heads... The final, successful combination... My Galaxy soft/squishy stamping head to pick up the design, then my Bundle Monster clear monocle stamping head to pick it off the Galaxy and reverse it. My regular clear stamping heads did not work at all other than to pick up the original image. But... persistence and stubbornness paid off. (# 1 New Year's resolution fulfilled.... smiles)
@MSLP6 жыл бұрын
So glad you made it work! It dawned on me after I did it, that I may have lucked out with the stampers I chose. I think whichever is your stickiest head is probably the best to pick up off the other stamper
@jaykb65876 жыл бұрын
Yes, you definitely did luck out, if my experience was the norm. However, from all of my trial and error... Lots of errors which became very trying... I found that it was best for me to use my Galaxy stamper to pick up the image from the plate. The Galaxy is my most soft sticky stamper. Then I used a soft clear stamper to reverse the image. For me, this was the only combo I could make this technique work with.
