From what I've read it was Animal Planet's mishandling of the animals in an attempt to script the show, in which the producers were fined. I've not seen any evidence that Turtleman was involved with any of it, other than capturing the animals. Think about it from his perspective, and also think about what contracts he had signed. Non disclosure agreements, performance agreements, etc. Turtleman most likely had no other choice than to go to the designated set and remove the designated animal.

Hey turtle man! I have so many great memories from my childhood from your show the best memory I have of watching you is you I think holding your breath over a minute! Turtleman! I'm so super glad that you're still around and enjoying life and having fun! When I was younger, I watched your show the first airing of the first episode and I was CAPTIVATED in the amazing show that was created! You were and STILL are my hero, wether or not things were staged or real or how fabricated by show producers it was. I'm 15 now, which means I was just an 8 year old girl living in an old house in a state close to yours, watching your TV show and hoping, praying, reaching out for a day I could be able to meet you and see you, but I'm not entirely sure if that day will ever come. I've always wanted to write to you, to talk to you, to tell you stories of how I saved kittens from storms and moths from store floors (no exaggeration), I was truly (and still am) a wild kid who loves animals just as they are people. You sparked that fire kindling in my heart, you helped make me who I am now. I watched your show every night when my mother disappeared years ago, and it helped me so much by giving me the hope for her to come back. I always thought, "she loves me, she loves this show, she'll come back to see it with me!" and I was right. She came back and it was the biggest releif of my life. When my parents would argue and scream at eachother I would turn on your show and I would pray for it to stop. It helped me so much and it made me feel so relieved. So many bad things happened, and every time I remember them I remember you. You gave me hope, Turtleman. And it's exactly what I needed then in my life. Like I said, wether or not it was real or fake, it still made me happy. It still gave me hope. And it still gave me memories. Happy memories of a time when life wasn't so happy. There is one story that I want to tell you, and I pray that you will read it. One day I was by the river with my mom, and this was the summer of last year, and I noticed something moving around in the water. I thought at first, "Maybe it's just a log?" but OOOHH BOY! It WAS NOT a log. I took a closer look, and I swear, it was a turtle with a head at least 7 inches wide and a foot long. I tapped my mom and said "MOM LOOK AT THAT GIGANTIC TURTLE!" and she looked and was in SHOCK. It swam peacefully down the river, INTO THE CURRENT with almost NO problems when most turtles I've seen simply follow the water! It headed up to a branch in the water and dove under it, and then popped back up a second later. Her and I both thought of you, and how much you helped us both. I want to meet you, so badly. To personally thank you for helping me even if you didn't realize you was helping or not. Thank you, from the botton of my big heart. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
