TURTLETOWN FALLS TRAIL | BEST HIKES IN TENNESSEE

Turtletown Falls Trail came highly recommended to us plus AllTrails recommends 4WD to access so that combines two of our favorite things-off roading and hiking. There is no signal so make sure you have your GPS ready before heading this way. The drive in started out easy gravel roads and then we found ourselves in red clay and the middle of a logging road. At this point, Wonderbread was starting to think we should turn around. We kept driving until the road split. We went left and turned out to be correct. Here it turned into what we expected with tree cover, rhododendron, and a flowing creek. There were some downed trees, puddles, and even a river crossing. Then we arrived at the parking area. The parking area had a little waterfall and great area to hang out and fish if you want. We headed out on the 3.8 mile loop trail. When the trail split, we chose to go counter clockwise. I like to save the best for last and that took us away from water. The trail was pretty with decent elevation but then a long descent that brought us to bigger of the 2 waterfalls. It was absolutely gorgeous. There is not an area to get down to the water at this point. We headed back out to try and find the second waterfall. From this direction, it is a shoot off trail to the right. This was also beautiful and had areas that you could wade in the water in warmer months. We really could not believe how absolutely gorgeous the trail was. The prettiest was the second half. You could go clockwise on the trail and once you get to the second waterfall, come back the way you started making it an out and back instead of a loop. This would eliminate the long uphill climb. Don’t miss Turtletown Falls! This is our new favorite trail!
