As a girl born and raised in Florence and the hills surrounding it (but now living in beautiful Gent, Belgium), I just adored the description of Italian driving customs, so true. I'm a very diligent driver here in Belgium, but my Italian blood never fails to bring back my killing driving skills every time I set foot in my home country
@SuitcaseMonkey5 жыл бұрын
Haha. I’m glad you said that. I was nervous putting that in because it’s never possible to group a whole country as one type of person but even as a joke I wanted to mention my personal experience. So glad you reacted to it fondly! We will have a Bruges vlog later this year. Hopefully you’ll enjoy that one too!

My first time in Italy I was travelling with a friend who was trying to watch what he ate and be mindful of calories. It was starting to be a drag since we were also in Tuscany. By the third day, I just looked at him and said, "what kind of an idiot goes on a diet in Italy." That pretty much snapped him out of it fortunately. Something as simple as basil, tomatoes and olive oil tastes like ambrosia in Italy. The land and the sun make everything absolutely delicious. I ate mozzarella di bufalla and gelato almost every singe day. Just walk every where, especially the hills and you'll be fine. Eat everything in Italy! Diet at home!

Hey, everytime I drive to Florence I also park at the Coop and take the "tramvia"! Smart move & good tip. They also sell super cheap Daily Family tickets for max 4 persons, good all day for the tram and buses too.

We just recently had a huge fire at the Coop, so the shopping centre is closed but parking is still available! I live a couple of blocks away.
@mariorossi3898 Жыл бұрын
Parking at Coop supermarket and leaving the car all day there is not a civilized habit. That parking place is for customers only and not for tourists. What would you think if tourists would park their car in your local supermarket parking place?

Very nice Vlog! Having lived in Italy I'd like to say something about the parking challenge, that is, unless you are an expert local motorist, trying to park towards the center of town is an exercise in futility. This is compounded by the fact that you have to navigate mostly one way streets and "denial of transit" rules for cars not domiciled in the area you are in. So my advice is, don't even try. Plan to park outside of the center of town, including convenient municipal parking areas. From there, plan to walk, take a bus or call a taxi if necessary, to get you to where you want to go. Cheers and keep posting you great vids!

Another nice video you pack plenty in. Hope its ok to add that Siena is famous for the Palio horse race run every July & Aug in its medieval square "Il Campo". Its a real spectacle (See start of James Bonds Quantum of Solace) for the horse race, flag waving parades and street partys (latter held night of the general trial, the night before main event) although my advice is to watch the trials held 2-3 days before the actual race which its crazy busy. There is free parking in huge car park by city walls as well as v expensive parking. Also If you ever go back to Tuscany please dont miss the beautiful city of Lucca with its wonderful piazzas, churches, the walk round the city walls, botanical gardens and its also host to "Lucca Comics and Games" every Oct or Nov the 2nd biggest Comic festival in the world.

Nice video. I would add that you generally need to book a time slot to climb the tower at Pisa. Also I have been to Pisa 3 times and I think half a day is more than enough. The most interesting thing about it is the tower area. There are many better places in Tuscany to spend the other half of you day.

It's just something I could hear Stephen Fry would say. One more question: Is it difficult to travel to Japan if you don't speak Japanese at all? I'm thinking that it must be agonizing to get around on trains, ordering food and so on. Even when it's translated, the long names of places sometimes confuses me.

Great video! I was wondering if you were going to mention parking and maybe give a good tip LOL! Parking is always the most stressful part when driving in Italy aside from the 90* turns in the roads, so now we stay a few days in a town and then take the train to nearby towns. Thanks for the info on the tram...that is new for me. Thank you again for a great Tuscan video!

Lots of great stuff in a short amount of time. You've a good eye for composing within the frame and for color and use of natural lighting. Because there's so much to see in your quality cityscapes, panoramas and food, may I suggest leaving 1 second more in those scenes. I had to stop the video a few times for all that was there to see. Still 6 days in one video, all in all, quite worthy.

We really enjoyed your video and was done very well. We are taking a Mediterranean cruise and we get off the ship in Venice. We will make our way to Florence and then pretty much follow your route. Instead of spending 4 nights in Florence where should we stay to break up our day trips to the various towns? Where would you stay if you did this all over again. Would you think it would be hard to find hotels along the way if we kept driving and not back tracked? Thank you from Florida.

That was really helpful and entertaining presented. I am planning a few-days-trip to Tuscany in September this year, being on my own and looked for some recommendations. Since I spent many years ago a university semester in Siena, I would like this time so see some more spots in the countryside. So, considering a temporary car and take maybe two different hotels, might be a good way to choose. Mabye, to safe money for food and other things to see, I might take an unexpensive overnight accomodation somwhere in the countryside but still looking for addresses. Anyway, thanks for that nice video.

Hmm. That’s a fair point. To be clear that isn’t something that happened or something I would do. I think the point I was trying to make is that there are all these wine tasting experiences around but you always need to drive to get to them so it seems like an odd set up. But point taken.
