That lume sandwich dial looks super clean! I was admiring the design of the hour hand, and also thought the Shellback signature on a curve was a nice touch rather than completely horizontal. Then when you showed those two features intertwined, I was impressed! Great design. I love bracelets, but this thing looks awesome on the tropic strap.

On the clasp point - I have the same on my Helson Shark Diver 40. Works well with that watch which has a chunky style bracelet. Also Helson tapers the bracelet an extra 2 mm prior to the clasp so that the clasp is a flush 20mm in line with the bracelet. Love the on the wrist adjustment. However I do agree with this slightly more elegant style watch / bracelet the clasp looks a little too beef. I think lots will still like it.

I couldn't decide if I was more excited for the watch review, or that Swedish coffee they sent you (we refer to good coffee as "brain food" in our house). The unique hand set is like a breath of fresh air in the dive watch segment. I would like to see this example on an FKM rubber strap when those female lugs become available. This beautiful watch looks like it can hang in the $1000-$2000 range all day long, and for me, the choice is a no-brainer at its current pricing over the comparable segment (micro-brand and big name). Well, off to buy some coffee and put my name on the pre-order list!

I went back to look at my macro photos of the bezel and pip and if they don’t remove it, I can live with it (probably the nicest pip I’ve seen in a while) Just would have looked a little more modern without it 👍
@anthonysmith29823 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review Pete. It's a little modern for me tbh. That's only my personal aesthetic tastes though. They've obviously done a heap of things well. I really like the case shape and how that bezel extends beyond it. More watches should do this. Great crown, great bracelet (though I'd like to see a heavier taper) and quality finishing. What I don't like is the glossy ceramic bezel or the dial and hands, though the contrasting white train track for the minute markers looks great on the outer dial. It's good to see that Ronda auto popping up too. I wish them very well.

Ceramic sandwich dial, BGW9 lume, that is just a stunning combination aesthetically. Pop this bad boy on an Artemis sailcloth strap, and call it done. I have no context for the movement, which is a concern, and I hate ghost positions. If the date version had a circular cutout for the date at 6 o'clock, instead of the odd rounded box, this would improve the symmetry of that variant.

Love it and would like to buy it, but the crown ghost position cheapens the experience. Aesthetically, I think losing the lume separation line (at the opening in hour hand) would work better with the overall simple dial layout, especially the open circular indices. I hope the manufacturer is able to make thoughtful changes to the production model like these and those expressed in the video. Edit: There is a date version of the watch which solves the ghost date position for some buyers. Definitely interested, and subscribed on the website for updates!

Nice review, Peter. However you could not be any more wrong about the pip on the bezel. A dive watch MUST have a pip on the bezel, otherwise it would not be functional as a Dive watch. I understand that you are not a diver, when you are diving in most conditions all you can see on the watch is the lume. If there is no pip on the bezel you will not be able to read elapsed time, rendering the watch useless for a diver. Hope this helps.

Really good watch; really, really good. Loving this watch, loving it. The slope of the bezel matches the domed lens, which I love; really, really love that, guys. But what does "Shellback" signify?
@joeskeptical47623 жыл бұрын
*Good question.* Many moons ago (about 1,400 give or take) a well known watchmaker now operating out of Geneva, provoked similar questions with its name choice, _hoROLogerie EXcellente_ (French) _ReLOjería EXcelente_ (Spanish) and _EXcelente RELOjoaria_ (Portuguese). Ever heard of them? 🙂 I will guess a less linguistic reason applies here.
@thegenera423 жыл бұрын
I think it has to do with the back of a shell that you find on the beach/in the ocean. The original caseback design showed the lines of a shell. On their website, Tusenö does explain their heritage, logo and design elements. I actually have to double check if they explained the name.
@fillefuling813 жыл бұрын
Right, they share a lot of interesting facts on their website 👀 Regarding the Shellback question, I was reading about it just recently, copy-pasted it below 👍🏼 ”SHELLBACK For the experienced sailor, the term "Shellback" is probably something you've heard before, and might even be yourself. To earn the Shellback title you must face the dangers of the deep sea and cross the equator. Maybe not too hard in modern ships, but certainly a struggle in the olden days. The word originates from the toughness of a turtle shell, meaning that a sailor crossing the equator must be as tough as one. On that basis, we created Shellback.”

I like it, but keep the pip.

Yeah sorry I like the design, but the pricing is too much for me. For that price I can get a very nice Zelos. The clasp: it's pretty much the same as on my Helm watches. I tell you now: It's terrible: way too big & bulky. I ended up paying extra to get the smaller Helm clasp. Also, I've never heard of the caliber they use? Ronda Mecano Calibre R150? I know Ronda mostly from their quartz GMT. Yeah, nice design etc. But other than that a bit of an outlier isn't it?

Yeah the clasp is the only real drawback here As for the movement it seems rock solid (on the timegrapher and in use) solid figures Cheers

@@PeterKotsa I'd say the pricing is the other drawback... I'd say: change the clasp (check Zelos how to do a useful extension), put a Miyota 9015 in it and drop the price €100 and I'm in..
