Tom's Tinkering and Adventures out of curiosity, when I flip my switch to on, the tail light stays on. Which makes sense, but do you have any idea how to shut it off for day riding? I have to keep the switch on so my brake light works

@@ktmdupuis7237 I suppose if you wanted to you could put in a three position switch with the first position being off, second position is brake light/turn signals/horn only an d third position is headlight/tail light and all the rest. Then you'd need a high/low switch. I'm just too lazy to do that, though!

Great post, on of my favorite, if not my favorite dirt bike, next to Honda! The only thing that miff's me about KTM, they are responsible for the crazy orange craze. On Brembo brakes, pin stripes on exotic cars, jeep color etc etc, When will it ever stop!

Gregor Miller KTM has really grown big over the last few decades. Barely saw any in the early 90’s but now they are everywhere.

I’m wondering if the way you wired up the head light if the stator can still run enough voltage to charge the battery even though the headlight is drawing for D/C. I was under the impression that the headlight was to be power by existing A/C from the stock harness. Either way, I couldn’t figure how to wire the headlight from the existing supply, so, I’m going to do it your way and go from the front brake switch. My on concern is that my Baja headlight I ordered may be haywire when I install it. Baja says their light kit turns AC into DC. 🤷

The only way to convert AC voltage to DC is with a regular/rectifier, so as long as you get one with your kit then you’ll be fine. This is the only way to easily hook up this system with the stock components, and it’s still working fine.

If you got the power for the head light from the front brake switch, would it work to use the other wire from the brake switch (the black wire which I assume is the ground) to run as a ground for the headlight?

I can’t remember which wires are what. Not sure why you want to power the headlight from the brake light switch? Most of those are a ground circuit with no voltage going to them.

I'm thinking of doing the same on my 2013 500xcw but I can't find any info for my bikes wiring. Idk what's what n previous owner messed with everything so this video will be studied.lol

I’m not certain if the wiring is different, but it should be pretty close. Good luck, let me know how it turns out.

Well the stator charges the battery, so it runs off both in theory? I don’t know what headlight comes stock on this bike, the dual sport kit is setup for a high/low beam bulb.

If it is like the Toyota Tacoma first generation it is a common power instead of a common ground.

Hmmm, Toyota and KTM are probably quite different.
