Tusu a harvest festival. this is one of the three major festivals of the Kurmi community in West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha.
From the middle of November to the middle of December (according to the Bengali calendar, from the last day of Aghrahayan to the last day of Poush) it is celebrated in different ways across the state.
Tusu is represented as a tiny doll, depicted as Goddess Lakshmi.
Tusu is the festival of the women. Tusu is worshipped as a mother, a daughter, a friend and a confidant to whom the village women can pour their hearts. Like Goddess Durga, Tusu is also a member of the household and the women folks welcome Tusu with folk songs all through the month.
One of the largest and most popular village festival in West Bengal, This begins on the last day of the Bengali Month of Agrahyan and continues through the whole month of Poush , culminating on Makar Sankranti which is the last day of Poush. Makar Sankranti is the last day of winter harvest and with it, ends the agriculture year.
And on the Makar Sankranti eve, womens fast and sing the whole night long.
