Can you link a picture of even one shoujo heroine who has the bottom vertical line on her lip? I can kinda get behind the horizontal line and I understand what the make up artist was going for with the top lip (even if I think it looks nothing like any shoujo manga I've ever read) but the bottom lip?????? Someone above said it best. Just makes her bottom lip look like a butt.

some people say that these do not look like anime lips at all... My question to these people is: have you read shoujo mangas and took a closer look at the covers? Or even saw promotional posters of anime of the genre? To me the lips she created in this tutorial represent the anime/manga genre perfectly. How did I know? Well, I'm not really a shoujo fan but, I'm a member of at least two manga reader sites and I have browsed a lot of manga of different genres. :-\

I'm a shounen fan too; and seinen fan :-D But I've seen enough shoujou and harem anime to know this... since I have a fan boy brother who reads and watch too much of those. Also, I'm a fan of josei, yaoi and yuri and those genres sometimes show this type of lips. :-)

if you are going to watch shoujo, better start with super gals, I think it's a good transition from shounen to shoujou, since the protagonist isn't like the common shoujou anime protagonist.

If you want a similar look, but a bit more natural looking, you can use a darker pink or red lip liner or lip stain :)

Those saying that these lips are not anime, I understand what you're saying, but you're not considering 2 genres. Thick, glossy lips are occasionally found in shoujo anime (young/teenage girl), but mostly found in josei anime (adult/mature girl). In the shoujo mangas such as Othello, the protagonists and antagonists are often shown to have pink, glossy lips which bares much resemblance to these lips. In the josei manga and anime Nana, the main character (and possibly the second Nana, but I don't remember) also has very thick and glossy. In fact, some shounen anime (young/teenage boy) have female characters that have thick and plump lips, to either sexualize a character or make them look somewhat goofy. This can be seen by the character Shura, from the manga and anime Blue Exorcist, as well as many more.

It'll work if your black, just use your skin tone to cover your lips and choose shades of red that look nice on you. It is the same process no matter lip size too
