I can set my com, in output option, when i click in "Serial Open" i see the com leds blinking in arduino, but when i click on "Start Playing" nothing happens

Thanks a lot for the tutorial! Got my screen working thanks to this, could mention I had problem getting my serial connection working but as soon as I removed and reinstalled java (and did the rxtx install) it worked. Vid of the screen is on my channel. Next step is getting it to work with an sd card, again using your tutorial! :)

There is some code I can load to the arduino so as not to have to work with the serial port, but record in a microSD the animations and the arduino reads them and sends them to the matrix

Hey Hamburgtech, I instaled the rxtx as directed in the video (very helpful by the way), upload the Arduino sketch on my UNO, but when I open the glediator output settings the serial selection box has nothing in it. I have an Arduino connected on a port but Glediator software does not see it. Has anyone come across this before? Any ideas? Thanks.

+Donny Lloyd : I fixed the problem. it was a mix-up between 32 and 64 bit java versions. I uninstalled them all and reinstalled only the 64 bit version then followed the instructions from the video. Everything is working fine. Thank you so much for the video.

I'm just following and now installing the three MFizz RXTX files the install text says to: Copy RXTXcomm.jar ---> \jre\lib\ext Copy rxtxSerial.dll ---> \jre\bin Copy rxtxParallel.dll ---> \jre\bin I've copied the two .dll files okay but with the .jar file there is no folder called 'ext', should I just create a (NEW) 'ext' folder and place in there OR copy it to 'lib' folder that already contains twelve .jar files? Also It doesn't say in your video what version of FTDI driver I need VCP, D2XX or D3xx ?? . (I'm running windows 7) Is there a Glediator forum anywhere???

Hey, yes it should work the WS1812 family is a modification of the WS2811 so they are all quite the same. And if not I can give you another sketch ;-)

+Richard Groizard Yes the MEGA or much better the Teensy Board which is compatible with the Arduino IDE. The MEGA can drive 1000 LEDs maybe with full load and they could flicker. The Teensy can drive 1000 LEDs easy and they won't flicker ;-)

The Arduino gets Power from the USB-Port so you dont need to power it up from another power source. But all connected devices need to use the same gnd. So you have to connect the gnd of your first led to the power supply and also to the Arduino(but not +5v), if you dont connect the gnds you only get flickering leds. Cheers Pascal

The arduino mega should be fine with 600 LEDs and you can use a different sketch that uses the FastLED library.

+Richard Groizard If you want to drive 1000 pixel, you could use the Arduino MEGA, but the Teensy Board could be better. The Arduino UNO may drive up to 400 LEDs. You will also need a strong power supply for the 1.000 LEDs. One LED is like 60mA, so you have 60.000 mA or 60A. 60A at 5 volts is 60*5 = 300W. So you need a 300W power supply.But its totally possible. You will only need the full 300W if all LEDs are on and white, when you run different animations you will need around 80-100W. But the power supply needs to stand 300W ;-)

If you can't see the COM Port in Glediator, then there is something wrong with your RXTX files. If everything is right with them you will see the COM Port, if not you won't see it ;-) Check if you used the right files and if they are in the right folders. Best of luck, have an awesome day!

I recently build a 15x20 Leds Matrix. But when I use the brightest mode in Glediator my matrix starts flashing. I put a 10K resistor and It solve the problem but the RED color dominating. for example I start the random pixel animation main colors are purple and a little blue. I slowly increase the Master level and RED comes out and distort a picture. why? (sorry for bad English)

Did you put a 470 Ohm resistor between your arduino and the data input of the leds? You could also install a capacitor to avoid flashing. Is your power supply powerful enough for all leds at full brightness? Maybe the color order is wrong? Do you power the leds only from one side or from more points? Best of luck :-)

I would say yes, but you might need to have some lines of code on an arduino that will transform the output of glediator a bit to fit your led rgb matrix.

Hello hamburgtech, thank you for your tutorial. I'm trying to create a 10x50 matrix using lpd6803 12v LED strips and use glediator with Arduino Mega2560 to control it. Yours is the only tutorial I can find that explains the process. However, I am having a few issues getting things working. I am currently able to communicate with the arduino via the IDE and upload info, but it does not seem to communicate to the single strip I'm testing on. The first step I'm not sure about is installing the FTDI Driver. My Arduino driver is already showing in device manager, but there is one "unknown device" showing. When I try to "update driver" using the FTDI driver, it fails every time. And when I try applying the driver to the Arduino under "Ports", it says the best driver is already installed. I'm not sure what I am supposed to be applying this driver to. The english translation says "maybe you need to install this driver" so I was wondering if it is necessary. Others have said that Arduino Uno does not use the FTDI drivers. Beyond all that, I'm a little unsure of where to connect the +12v pin of the strip to the arduino. There is a 5v pin and a Vin pin which I have heard of others using. I'd appreciate any help you can offer, even directly via email or something. Thank you!

Hello my friend, first I have some bad news for news for you ;-) FastLED Library: "LPD6803, HL1606, and "595"-style shift registers are no longer supported by the library. The older Version 1 of the library ("FastSPI_LED") has support for these, but is missing many of the advanced features of current versions and is no longer being maintained." But maybe we can manage that. If you can upload code to your arduino and see it in the arduino IDE the FTDI driver should be fine. You can't connect the 12V of the LEDs to the arduino ;-) you need a 12V power supply. You only connect the data and the ground wire to the arduino. And there are two solderpads on the MEGA with the label "RESET_EN" you need to cut the little bridge between the solderpads to disable the autoreset. Otherwise the MEGA will not work with glediator, because when glediator sends data the MEGA will perform a reset.You have choosen a difficult LED type and a difficult arduino type ;-) But I think we can get it working :-)Have a good day!

I have an arduino uno and am using WS212B LED matrix from alitov. I can run adafruit neopixel strand test. When I have Glediator running and I select the com port that the Arduino is using, I get an NPE when starting serial output. Have you seen this before, possibly know solution to fix?

Thank you for responding :-). Null Pointer Exception when trying to open the serial port. The COM-Port I need is in the list but when I try to use it I get the exception. I'm thinking it is an issue with my java installation being 64 bit rather than 32 bit but I am not sure.

John Elder Hey, if you can see the comport everything should be fine from that side. I guess there must be something wrong with your Java application, but I never had that issue before. I would try to Google for that error, null pointer exception comport Java, something like that ;-) Or maybe just reinstall Java. Best of luck! Would be nice to know if and how to solve that.

+hamburgtech Gerne :-) Hab nur mal kurz die Software probiert ohne Arduino und WS2812B und es gefällt mir sehr. Einzig den Text zu ändern habe ich nicht geschafft, es hat sich nicht speichern lassen. Aber vielleicht auch mein Fehler irgendwo, bin sicher das es funktioniert. Aber jetzt wachsen mir die Projekte über den Kopf, zeit muss man haben. Ist immer mehr Arbeit als man denkt ;-) Das mit den Projekten kenne ich, habe gerade so ca. 10, die sich in unterschiedlichen Stadien befinden :-P PS: Das mit der Glediator Schrift ist ein Bug, klappt bei mir aber immer, wenn ich einen anderen Text eingebe und dann die Schriftart ändere und dann erst auf "Done". Hey There! Wonderful Tutorial! It helped a lot! So I finally got my Adafruit 8x32 Flexible Matrix with Arduino Uno talking with Glediator. Whenever I open up the serial I saw only 1 dot open light up on the Matrix. However, I read the comments below and I changed the UBRR0L Value to 16. (Im not exactly what its for, I'm assuming the "Length"? and so now the entire thing lights up, but it is nothing like the image in the center. I have tried all of the different Pixel Order's but to no avail, its still a jumbled mess. I was wondering if you had any suggestions. Thanks so much!

Hey, what OS do you use? Windows or OSX? Maybe try another Arduino sketch, I will send you a link soon. Did you try a test sketch from adafruit or somewhere else to see if the LEDs are running with your Arduino and without Glediator? I m pretty sure we can solve your problem :-)

Tor Espen Sneltvedt Yes that's the correct way it must be like a snake. You can drive around 60-80 LEDs with only power from the start point. If you connect more LEDs you should put power on both sides. Or if you want to power a few hundred LEDs you should connect the LEDs after every 60 LEDs to the power supply. Otherwise there will be too much amps going through the LEDs ;-)

Hello, well you should use a resistor to protect your leds ;-) a capacitor could help against flickering leds, place it between - and +. But it could be also the animations that cause some flashing.

+Richard Groizard With designs you mean animations? Yes sure on each side you have 5 fields where you can choose an effect, you can also choose a filter and a mixer to create your very own animation. Then there is the "configure generator" button where you can change also a lot of the choosen effect. But thats not all you can do the same Thing on the other side and mix both sides together in the middle. So there are a lot of possibilities :-)

Well, arduinos from China should be fine, with Mac there could be trouble sometimes^^ Try download a sketch from here: hamburgtech.de/downloads/ this file should work, but you need to change to your led type: GLEDIATOR_with_FastLED_ARDUINO_and_WS2801 and you need to install the FastLED library for the Arduino IDE. Check this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5SwfJefqaqJqrs and you should get all information you need ;-). If it's not working or you have any issues, feel free to ask me :-)

Tnx for replying again. Tried "GLEDIATOR_with_FastLED_ARDUINO_and_WS2801" but it nothing happen. I`m using a 8x8 , 2812 matrix for testing. When running some fastled examples directly, the matrix work and behave as normal. But now, when i go back to the glediator sketch, my matrix follows the pattern in the glediator, but another issue though, the whole matrix flashes on and off all the time. Denn die sind genau dafür da, dass Glediator den COM Port erkennt ;-) Noch mal genau prüfen ob die Dateien die richtigen sind, also Betriebssystem etc. und noch mal genau gucken ob die in den richtigen Ordnern gelandet sind und dann wird es sicher klappen! :-) Viel Erfolg! Hello I'm using a Arduino Uno, WS2812 LEDs on a Neopixel shield. The ledshield works with a basic neopixel sketch. I rechecked datapin and number of leds in the Glediator sketch and uploaded it. Sometimes there is more then one Java version on your computer. You can use RUN and enter java -version. Best of luck!

+hamburgtech No luck so far. Java updated to a new version meanwhile. I did look into the java version. The folder of this version lacks the jre folder altough there's a bin and lib folder. I've tried pasting the RXTX in these folders and also tried generating a new folder: jre/lib etc.. Without success. The Jinx software is working but I'd also like to try the effects of Glediator.

+hamburgtech Hi spend some time on the project today and got some improvements as well. I re installed Java-RXTX and got the communication working with the arduino. I´ve tested on a duinofun arduino shield (40 ws2812b leds) and it works perfect. Then I connected it to my led matrix (10x10 ws2811) and it doesn't work anymore. I've changed the number of LEDS in the sketch. I've tried with a 500 Ohm resistor in the data line and without. Got some tips?

You should not check it without a resistor ;-) If your LED matrix is working with a test sketch, it shouldn't be a long way until you can run it with Glediator. I have 240 Ws2812's. I can run them at 240 x and 1 y with no problems. When I try to make a 18x by 13y matrix it does not work. Anyone have any ideas? I'm using an arduino uno. If someone that is running a matrix can show their settings I would appreciate it.

Hi, I don' t have Glediator in front of me at the moment, but you can change the pixel order somewhere in the options. Play around a bit, you should find the right options for your matrix. Your number of leds is okay for the Arduino uno should run without limitations.

Ok, I got it to work. It apparently doesn't like a matrix of 18x by 13y. I used multiples of 30 and it is working. I'm sure other multiples will work. I set it to HS_TL, Horizontal Snake_Top Left. My matrix starts at the top left, goes right to the end of the fist strip, and then goes left on the second strip, and so on.

Hey, maybe you should use a bit less than 1000 LEDs, because thats the absolute maximum the arduino MEGA can handle. Maybe take around 900? Take WS2812B as strips, that would be the easiest way. The LEDs a parallel, if one LEDs breaks the other LEDs are still fine. Connect the LED strips after every 50-100 LEDs to your powersupply otherwise there are to much amps running through yout tiny strips ;-) Best of luck!

Hey if you can't see the comport (COM) in the glediator software, then there is something wrong with your rxtx files. You should double check these. Maybe the wrong folder. When everything is fine with your rxtx files you will see the COM. Best of luck!

hi hamburgtech, i found this software and i think is great, i use to work with led edit screen capture and edit my efects with madrix, but used to have problems about the keys. Now i try to use this software, but want to work with a matrix size of 200 x 100 pixel (as an example) and the glediator not have this matrix size? , I want not see the separation between pixels (small black lines that are visible) any suggestion to broaden my matrix size?

When I try to use 200 x 100 pixel my Glediator screen stays black. But one time I tried to control 200 LEDs in a line and it worked, while the display stayed dark. So I think it could work and there is only a bug or limit in displaying. Maybe try the Jinx! software. The last update of Glediator was a few years ago ;-)

F&#252;r deine Anzahl an LEDs brauchst du im Arduino-Universum&#160;ein Teensy board, dass schafft so ca. 2000 LEDs oder auch mehr in den neueren Versionen. Die aktuellste Version ist 3.2, f&#252;r die Teensy boards gibt es das Octo Library, um gro&#223;e LED Matrizen anzusteuern. Ich habe damit selber noch nicht gearbeitet, will mir aber n&#228;chstes Jahr mal so eine riesen Matrix bauen ;-) Ist aber alles sehr gut dokumentiert! What kind of LEDs you try to control? WS2801, WS2811, WS2812B? Or total different ones? Did you put the right number of LEDs and the right data pin into the sketch? Did you connect ground (-) of the LEDs to GND of the Arduino? We will get those bitchy little LEDs working ;-) Cheers!

+hamburgtech Hello Using an Arduino Uno with WS 2812b LED strips currently have them as 6 rows of 22 leds and one of 18.leds, total of 150leds which I put into the sketch.and put the data pin as 6 which I have the data pin in 6 on the Arduino. Have also got the ground in the middle gnd pin on the arduino. Can get most of the other sketches like Poluloledstrip to work. The one thing I did see different to your setup is when I go Glediator Output options the drop down box above Serial Open is empty. Hope we can get it sorted. Cheers

+Ron Ireland In the drop down there must be something like "COM 5" or "COM 3", the serial comport your Arduino is connected to. The Arduino must be plugged into the USB before you start GLEDIATOR. But I guess thats not the reason. I tried to find a solution for your error on the web. I think the error must be somewhere in the RXTX part: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZ7anHZqgtd2ndkm23s maybe there is a mistake. If you can't see the comport there must be something wrong with the RXTX files. Cheers!

+hamburgtech That was the problem. re-installed the rxtx and now have the system working. Got lights flashing so can start to see what works. Now onto the next step.
