This is part three of a multi-part series where I cover takeoff, climb out, cruise and programming the FMS for VNAV for the descent.

Good series of videos for the Dash 8 Q400. It has always been a favourite of mine as it is a little bit different to the 'old favourites'. Looking forward to the next video.

+Stephen Westrip Thanks, Stephen. I find the Dash8 Q400 to be an excellent sim and well worth the time to get to know well. The recent release of the Pro version breathes more life into this awesome product. Yet, I cannot help but feel that despite being an awesome sim, it doesn't generate the same interest as high quality tube-liners. I'm unsure why. Rich (flightsim481) and I have discussed flying the aircraft on our joint channel at gear down three greens. However, given the apparent lacklustre interest in the Q400 sim, and a huge backlog of potential videos, we have to question the investment of time in creating that video. I'm very interested in hearing what you and other viewers think. Please leave a comment.

+MrCobolman I have the feeling that, for the tube liners and larger aircraft generally, that unless it is a PMDG product the interest is much less. This is a shame as the Majestic Q400 is a great aircraft that is fun to fly as the FMC / auto-pilot requires more interaction than a Boeing or Airbus. I would love to see a series of the Majestic Q400. They are used quite extensively by various airlines worldwide so interesting real-life routes could be found.

In my opinion, the by far most advanced add on in flight simulation! So keep them coming please :-)

+Altenholz I think the Dash8 from Majestic is under-rated. It is one of my top five sims.

I got everything, Im only confused about setting the speed on the AP. Either I can hold speed but have the altitude changing, or a set altitude but manually changing the speed

The "acceleration altitude" you speak of is actually called Flap Retraction Altitude (FRA)

+Mr Cobolman Hi Derek, the correct place this time! At 9 minutes into the video you start to cover setting TOD. I have followed this and on my display I also see the TOD distance counting down, so far so good. My problem comes (lack of understanding from me) trying to get the Dash to descend under VNAV. I press the VNAV button but when the TOD is reached the descent is not started. Just wondered what I was doing wrong. The following video started after the descent. . . .

+Ken Vincent Hi Ken. It sounds like you've programmed the TOD in ok. What you should see, two minutes before arriving at the TOD, is the VNAV path symbol appearing on the PFD. It's a magenta coloured 'V' symbol just to the left of the altitude tape. Now dial in the altitude we need for our Initial Approach (3,000) and press [ALT SEL]. Finally, push the [VNAV] button and you should be good to go.

+MrCobolman Thanks Derek, I think I was almost there! I did manage to get the magenta V and VNAV to go green. Just one more question? That's got me down to 9000ft and the next height limit is 3000ft, do I have to set the next altitude in and press [ALT SEL], [VNAV] or will VNAV just continue down to the next height? Thanks for the help.

The accompanying video (landing the Dash8 Q400) talks you through that part, Ken. Enjoy!
