Great Tutorial! just a small change at ~12min: get a captain, go into information, behavior and change it to repeat order. then give the order to sell 1 food. the captain will then repeat that order on their own while you can do something else.

How do I get it to sell just one? The only trade instructions are destination, sell ware, quantity to keep and min price. I'm guessing its something to do with quantity to keep but I can't seem to get it to work.

@@IllegalHelios lets say ur ship can carry 300 of whatever you want to sell, if u want to sell to a single station u either set the quantity to buy to 1 and the quantity to keep to 0 or buy 300 and set the quantity to keep to 299. if u want to sell at multiple stations u go down 1 for each station ( 1st station 299, 2nd 298, 3rd 297) hope i could help

You are a very, very bad man. You got me into this game and I love it. Lets see If I can add some cheese to the trading platter... ARGON REP FROM +5 TO +20 IN 1 HOUR 15 MIN(game time). Took 2 hours 45 min IRL with some blunders on a first attempt. Young Gun Start, load up on a full set of crew+pilot and faster engines(will need to butcher/sell some thing off starter ship). Headed to Hatikvah’s Choice I. Started the Hatikvah’s Trade Revolution mission. You get a small freighter and a medical supply delivery mission, you can get rep when you sell the mission meds 1 by 1. Thy give you 250 to deliver, took me from +5 to +16 with argon. You can double it up if you go pick up the derelict Elite Vanguard in Grand exchange I, for some reason its hard for me to find the one in Silent Witness XI. Be sure to pick up some crew at the start cos you gonna need to promote them to pilots for the new ships. Rep trades work on purchase and selling. 16 to 17 rep, 66 trades 17 to 18 rep, 81 trades 18 to 19 rep, 101 trades 19 to 20 rep, 127 trades All trades where done with medical supplies. When you go to get your free Odysseus, you can avoid the mines on the way out by diving below or going above the ecliptic (main horizontal level) of the map. That avoids the defense platforms and squadrons too. You might be able to set one of your NPC captains to repeat orders and sell a food at a time. You might also be able to set one of your other captains to resupply the first with repeat orders. I'm not near a computer I can test this, though. For early game money, you can sometimes get level 3 engines on a captured L ship and downgrade them for several million. The difference in performance between level 2 and 3 is very small compared to the difference in price. In fact, when you start capturing L ships, you can often pay for their repairs by downgrading them, and don't even need to sell them for station building funds. My free Odysseus always winds up well upgraded as I go, and I use it as a home base for whatever small and medium ships I want to adventure with for a while. I'll send it to some location to wait on me, and treat it more or less like a golf bag for ships. If I'm not doing that, it winds up being an armed sector trader - working close to where I'm adventuring. Hazardous regions are useful for training up your ships' service crews. Put them in an L ship and have them go tool around in a hazardous region (Avarice, I think, winds up being the best) so they can constantly repair shields and components. When you have teleportation you can start using them as a training ship, bulk transferring elite crew members from your training ships to your newly captured/built capital ships and rotating in the newbies.

If you sell that large ship and take the 9 million (sometimes its better anyway because they spawn randomly such as with no engines like I got) you can buy like 20 miners right away. Put them all in argon prime because for some reason all the ore there has spacefly eggs in it. Fly around and gather eggs while your mining fleet does its thing and you can make a lot very fast in early game that way. That said they eggs will dry up as the ore does. Also if you have a headquarters you can make any of your item collector scouts deposit their inventory there, this helps avoid police checks and consolidates your goodies. Also also I know I mentioned you could capture xenon ships before however that appears to have been an old bug and I was just crazy lol.

I actually did capture a couple of xenon ships but it’s weird. Right before they get shot down, they just abandon their ships, leaving it up for grabs. It happened to me three times last week lol

I just subbed after watching your 4 videos in your "X4 Tutorial nuggets". I've seen quite a few tutorials by others already, but you've touched on quite a few things that I haven't heard before. I have a new start and stayed in SOL system too long it seems. After coming out for the first time, I discovered the Kha'ak have wiped out more than half the Antigone stations and all ships. Teladi space also has no ships and a lot of stations missing. Luckily with three destroyers I took out the two large Kha'ak bases. However, the Argon are almost completely wiped out by Xenon that have taken over sectors including Argon Prime and Hatikvah's Choice I, and destroyed the wharfs and shipyard. The Argon faction representative is still in it's sector, but It's there with only about three small bases and a Xenon defense station. I was considering a restart, but I may try your faction trick to get to Argon 10 to buy M-Flak Turret blueprint. I can get the Plasma Turret from the Antigone if necessary. Antigone don't sell the flak turret. If I can drive the Xenon back with defense turrets to their original start sectors, this game might be salvageable. Do you have any secrets for taking out Xenon defense stations? lol I know I'm super invested in a game when I start adding terms like Teladi and Kha'ak to my spell check. lol

Taking down a Xenon station or whatever station is just done by clicking "attacking" on a destroyer with long range attack. And wait 30min-1h while doing something else. Ideally you want a second destroyer to handle Xenon ship reinforcements.

@@varanzmaj No. Biggest DPS = XL battleship. 2 type. The one of a kind from the Avarice DLC (pirate ship that you steal and then build your own components) and the Terran DLC one (you need around 1 billion credits to make the first one due to all the blueprints you need to buy). Then, L destroyers are the normal big capital ships that are tanky and deal high damage. They cost 10-30M credits. Most XL big ships are Construction, Supply (aka healers) and Carriers (mostly for the lulz, they can carry 40-80 Small and Medium ships. You can get one destroyer for free at the start. Search for tutorials about where it is located. The easiest early game method to make money is to use that free destroyer to kill Xenons.

14:00 when all the trades have been queued, sit in the chair, open the map, and activate SETA. This mode usually can't be activated when docked, but if you're looking at the map while docked, the hotkeys for SETA (default shift+4, atleast on my game) does activate the drive. (Really glad this isn't the case for Travel-Drive. Imagine moving entire stations! 🤣)

When doing the "criminal activity"runs for basic rep, my favorite scan-jobs are the ones unlocking the local black market vendor (usually won't pop up if docking isn't possible, but if they do; accept them, and keep gaining rep until docking is possible). As the black market vendors sell the hacking tools needed for missions in the area, I rarely run out of them. More often than not, they also buy illegal wares in bulk (like water or spice is illegal, according to some factions) with a decent markup, compared to the open (and on the books) market.

I would like to note that if you are focusing on combat to make money, the police license is important for at least the faction who's territory you plan to hunt Xenon in. I like hunting in Getsu Fune for the backup from both Ter and Ant as well as it being technically Ant controlled meaning I get paid for hunting through the police license as well as the sales of the drops. As a bonus it also helps you fast track yourself to 20 rep if you decide to hunt in a faction you want to build rep with. Downside is you'll have to get to at least +10 on your own first.

I think it's a bit random, it can still be in minefield, in my last playthrough in 6.0 it was, second, if you fly from center of sector and not from the gate, 90% of times you will not encounter mines, it seems to be mostly in top third of sector, but again, randomness.

missions even the early ones are as fast or faster , sctor patorl is really good because you dont have to a thing just hang out in the sector.. killing the enemy just increase your rep and money you get in the but you hide in a station (not docked) activate seta and just wait.... and you can accept multiple for the same sector...miner escorts(i got on avagere 1mil and one i got from 3-11 rep after one mission) are even better if you have a fast M-Class.... and police licence dont forget them they paid off really quick particularly when you do escort and patrol missions which can be done at the same time and you got double paided or tripple ( depnds how many mission you got in your log)

a less tedious way is creating a trading loop - it´ll take longer, yes but you will have to do only 5 clicks instead of 100x5 :D oh and you can farm the exeptional thingies by fighting the buccaners (if you have their expansion DLC) unless you do their quest their reputation is locked at -15.

I usually head for this ship at the start of any playthrough. This ship has a tremendous cargo for its size and has great speed to transfer claytronics and hull parts to make stations, for a faction or for myself. How ? The Odysseus Vanguard has space for 40 S ships and 2 S docks on the outside, so if you stick 40 Frogs from the Terrans you will have 40x4120 m3 = 164800 m3, you might as well carry multiple Defensive Station materials to build across the galaxy, especially with closed loop production chain. I use the outer 2 S docks to park my S fighter and a fast scout. Thats not all, it can also hold 10 M size ships inside, stacking 10 Teladi Vulture Sentinels, each with a 15100 m3 will give 151000 m3. On the outer M dock will be a place for a Nemesis Vanguard to deal with pesky Xenon Ps in a breeze. The best thing is , pirates can not detect what your ships have if they are parked in the internal cargo hold. With 40 Frogs and 10 Vulture Sentinels in the internal cargo hold you have is a whopping 315800 m3. So the ship is offered for free by the game so just grab it.

Great job on these tutorial and playthrough videos, FJ. Just one thing to note, you don't need to scan a ship's data leak, you can use your repair laser on it and it will also acquire the ship (this way you don't have to get so close as to bounce off the hull). Great job, as always, this game is amazing to play and immerse yourself into!!

I started a new game recently and wanted to try doing something slightly different than what i usually do. I was especially tired of micro managing M size traders and miners having to deal with pirates and Khaak, so i wanted to go pretty much directly into L subordinates. I also made this a tides of avarice Stranded start, so i wanted to try something i barely did before : boarding. Collected some xenon loot and did a few missions initially to get a bit of money (especially ones requiring scanning station) and built a bit or reputation because i was going to lose some later. Bought Split frigate with 25 marines went to Nopileos' fortune sector and boarded L miners (can even sit next to them while they mine and board suddenly without needing to destroy surface elements and lose reputation). At that point i bought a few cheap scouts to either loot drops in contested areas or to explore the map. Then i loaded one or two of those with marines on top of my frigate and had enough to take on L traders. L traders became my marine carriers while L miners went mining to generate passive income and build reputation. After that point i started grabbing L traders and XL builders to sell and... for once i was the one bullying SCA by boarding their destroyers either to keep or to sell. Since i have a lot of black market located from earlier, i picked the research for scanning blueprints and went into a massive blueprint hunt. I'm now ready to start building stations with 100M funds available, 3 L traders, more than 10 L miners, 2 builders and a destroyer...none of those i even bought. This was definitely my most unique game start so far

I just use autotraders to get the rep up, but this cheese seems even more efficient. I wonder if instead of manually queuing the orders you could use "repeat orders" behavior. You can sell the security tools and a bunch of other stuff nobody else buys to the SCA station traders. Doesn't really make much sense, but you can.

Not sure if you want some text regarding it, but here is some. The equipment wise they are separate, you cannot put boron equipment on other ships and the other way around too. On paper some of the weapons are good, in practice they have issues, the long range weapons will almost always miss their first shot, both with the fighters and turrets. The other weapons are more disruptive then actually damaging, potentially more of a support ship to be mixed in but not great alone in system. Their engines are a bit different, only a single type, main thing being no warm up, good top speed but very slow acceleration on the travel drives, outside of travel drives they are slow, like, low standard speed compared to most, this makes their ships a bit vulnerable to pirates. They do have very good shields in comparison, surpassing terran shields in some aspects. There is a slight utility to them which most of their ships are easy to board or depart from. If you do mod them, acceleration might be a bit useful, though I haven't done the math to compare how it is with a top speed with other ships. As for stations, their economy is in general worse then most of the commonwealth, it costs almost equal to the terrans in terms of food and medical, at least raw credits wise. They also have the downside that all their stations modules requires water to build ontop of their normal cost. System layout, it does make heratic's end a very good system to claim as the player since there is Ice 2 jumps away and large quantities of other materials right next door. The inner systems are fairly self sustaining though it will vary with how well they do depending on what they have. The terraforming project is a bit on the hard side, in terms of the amount of materials you need and the fact the nearest source of ice is 6 jumps away. Just for reference you need like 15 million or so plankton in total which compounds the ice issue, its still doable though.

I just started the game and I don't know if it is because I am coming from playing Chorus, which is all flying and insane combat, but I have a lot of trouble handling the fighter and pointing at the enemy ships. The gamepad controls move a lot and are very imprecise and difficult to handle. It might be the sensibility, but I have tried different options and still can't do decent combat. Any thoughts?

Wait... the gigantic minefields in Faulty Logiv VII were removed?? I haven't claimed the Ody in quite a while, but I distinctly remember that pretty much the only way to get it out of the sector was in OOS mode by an AI pilot, so that the tracker mines wouldn't activate. Mind you, back then it was also impossible to capture ships with scanning, so you had to drop a marine on it in a boarding pod. And that marine would do what marines do best: blow stuff up. This means about half the Ody's subsystems would be destroyed, making it **much** worse.

Stick to the highway and it will take you to paranid space, you are looking for Trinity Sanctum III, their is always a shipyard there unless the Xenon have taken it over which is unlikley.

However, it did teach me a lot more about the game since I took the long way round I am now 40 hours in and only now bought my first destroyer, a Split Rattlesnake, however it is without main guns, so I'm using it to CAP other ships. Heheh. In any case it's kind of slow going, as the 7.00 beta that I'm playing has severely nerfed the mission rewards and the combat loot drops (in 40 hours of playing i have seen exactly 6 spacefly eggs) but now that I have the rattler I will use it to capture helpless enemy L miners which I will sell so I can equip it with expensive guns. Learned a lot from your vidoes, I hope you play more X4 7.00. Thanks.

I have no idea how you (and other youtubers making x4 content) just waltz into Xenon sectors. I haven't been able to literally step 1 inch into any xenon sector without getting instantly blasted to smithereens. There are entire squadrons of them just sitting at the gate.

I take it your talking about the small ship? That is a Pegasus. It's Vanilla X4, it's got a chassis (Polisher) and engine (Reaver) upgrade. If you look up "Tutorial : Newbie start guide : X4 Foundations" it will show you the video of how I get it kitted out really quick at the start of the game.

For the trading, why not queue up "buy 1 *" to an NPC trader vessel and then set them to repeat orders? Seems like it would be the lowest effort way to do it.

juste arrived with a moka (?) ship that I got from standard missions. No "decode data stream" option. I'm fed up of dyjng trying to get there. died because AP sent me throught ennemies and I died when exiting. My ship did not have the primary weapons equipped on receiving the ship. Where do I get them? Also, which do you recommend following, this guide or your big 11 episode playthrough? I know you have some larger ships in that one but you get this one and outfit it in that game too. I’m curious to know which you think is a better setup.

You need a captain on any ship you are not personally commanding otherwise you cannot give it orders. So it is standard practice to have one on every ship.

I mean, is there a way to make this work if I just try to sell the scavenged ship parts and grind the faction missions while only ever owning one ship at a time. I just noticed, is that a Starsector portrait you're using? Does this mean we'll get some videos of that at some point? Such an amazing game. Also, there's just a free destroyer sitting there?? Should not matter what Items you trade, energy, food, anything really. What items are you selling? Are you selling them one at a time? Are you selling them to the correct faction?

Later on you can research seta which speeds up time. There are mods that give you it to start.

im not too sure about not being able to sell those secutity items, my black market guys have them in stock but they tell me i need better standing...with some luck you maybe find a black market guy for one of the biger factions i think i seen some argon ones not only hatikva or those teladi pirates, maybe if you get to 20 standing they buy them from you...havent managed but working on it ;)

When it comes to the black market guys you used to be able to sell them but I believe it was patched out. Maybe you can still sell security items with enough rep but that would take a long long time, by then you are usually very very rich already. So I figured it's best to just focus on doing a few missions with them as they are great money spinners.

Yes, hair styles are in DIRE need for some re-touching by a proper designer XD Seriously, X4 is such a great game, but their characters look NIGHTMARISH. Just head for the Bar and look how their neck goes when they lean forward over the table. The horror. But hey, it´s a SHIP game, not a PEOPLE game. In fact, i for my part would prefer if they got rid of the 1st person mode, i do not comprehend what it´s good for. Oh, for rapid Reputation increase, i recommend buying some small miners and letting them Auto-mine in sectors of the faction you want to increase your standing. Not just gives it a constant passive income, it slowly but surely increases your popularity, and the more you get, the faster your Rep raises. And yes i MEAN small miners, the amount of trades you do seem to matter more than the amount you trade for, interestingly. Hacking tools CAN be traded, at Black Market vendors, you know, those guys you get in Bars. On the map, it´s the icon of a guy in Fedora with glasses next to the station.

Have to do a bit of training on it but it does look to be promising. You need about 6-8 million to buy a Shuyaku Vanguard for capturing destroyer class ships.

@@FrancisJohnYT As I fly around each sector, I scan for "Pillager" and when I see any Minotaur Pillagers I make a bee line for them and capture them. I put these into groups of 10 (free ships) and make them into boarding fleets. Equip them as you like, load them with marines and have them follow L/XL ships you want to add to your fleet (I look for Marauders and Plunderers to grab Rattlesnakes, Behemoths and Phoenixes myself). Once I have a spare 10Mil I buy a Shuyaku and load it up with Marines to replace any losses from my boarding fleets and rinse and repeat... Easy pickings!

I feel the income very unbalanced. I make 10x more with 3 defense stations on Xenon gates + 3x autoloot ships than I do with manufacturing. 1 station = 5-8m investment. Manufacturing = 200m investment. Saving factions from Xenon destruction and then milking the Xenons seem overly profitable. I've not managed to do nearly as much with so little effort from boarding ships. It also makes me not want to wipe out Xenon sectors because my cash cow would disappear.

The Xenon money making is a bit map dependant, every game is randomized to an extent. Some game the Xenon are rampaging and in other they get crushed. However factories will always make money, so usually it's a good idea to make enough money to make a decent sized factory complex. But then again it's a single player game so play how you wish.

This shows very well how broken and underdeveloped the mechanics are in this game. Each time I need to hold myself to not play like that, it's like an exploit on an exploit😅 Otherwise you are just swimming in money and everyone is happy with you, so you basically have beaten the game but haven't realized that yet.
