Is this normal thread or like the thick threads used in embroidery? I can’t tell from the video alone and I really want to try this super cute cupcake! ❤

if you want the outline stand out and shiny use embroidery threads

I use embroidery thread but only 1 strand unless Im doing detail work and want it to stand out then I will do 2 strands.
