[Tutorial] Garry's Mod | Ultimate Fin Airplane tutorial - Powered by ACF

This is how to build an airplane in gmod using fin tool and ACF for power. This should be a complete covering tutorial for new to advanced gmod builders, pleas leave a like if it helped you :)
1. Addons you need are all in the workshop collection.
Includes how to get things outside workshop, like ACF and axis centre:

2. Expression 2 Chips we use; SetAng.v1 & MassCentre.

Unpack and paste .txt files in your expression2 folder.
Located here: \Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\data\expression2
3. If you're not on a server and never have used any propcore stuff, like setang, before you might need to enable it, cause it should now be in official wiremod, then do this:
All you need to do, is have Gmod running. Open up your developer's console (~, enable it by: options: advanced options: enable developer's console). Now you have to type this in (in the same order)
"wire_expression2_extension_enable propcore" (then press enter)
"wire_expression2_reload" (then press enter)
"wire_expression2_reloadeditor" (then press enter)
4. Build your plane in local multiplayer, can be selected when clicking the singleplayer button and drop down select. Or you can build on a ACF server. If you decide play in regular Singleplayer your airplane might not work very good.

You ever thought of doing prop engines? They can generate enormous amounts of torque and it's pretty cool when you can physically see the engine's pistons moving while you're flying/driving or whatever else. Of course, you also need a prop transmission (usually friction gears) and - if you really want a full-on drive train - a differential, though I don't usually implement this. You can even integrate a clutch into friction gears by altering their mass to "disengage" the transmission. Of course, it's a bit more complicated than ACF, but being able to build physical engines and transmissions and the like in GMod is really cool. I remember making a plane powered by a V6 prop engine once, though I don't have it anymore.

Yeah I made a few prop engines long ago, but never stuck for it, it is cool definitely but i don't find it very useful as acf gives what I want with less work, but sure, prop engines can be very cool!

I don't know if you're gonna read this but I'll ask anyways... Could you make a tutorial on how to show your current ammo type and stuff like current gear and else on your hud? I've seen one of your mech's and when you got in it, it showed your ammo types (I think even the current one) and I wanted to have that too. (Yeah I know this isn't the newest video and neither th right one to ask something like it but meh)

I made my plane but it has issues. -when i roll and turn using ailerons and elevator the plane's propellor seems to shut down which doesn't allow me to roll and turn so i rely on rudder. -my plane went at 80 kph only when i had 3 of those engines in it. I did the same weights as you so idk. Any ideas?

+Cill Blinton Pleas specify 'shut down', but try if it stops doing that if you only use one engine

Gmodism Total Nerdery Channel It went 40 km max with 1 engine and by shut down I mean it stopped spinning fast enough to carry the plane. So it's like when I turned the air hitting the propeller was enough to stop it.

Hm, it might be so that all you engines to one system makes it confused, if it works with one that is - make sure you have nocollided stuff and that your propeller axis might need to be a meatier chunky prop

I have a little problem after following step by step this tutorial, when i turn in an opposite direction from the north facing (so i'm facing south while i fly) the rudder starts going mad an makes me lose control. How can i fix this? It seems that the rudder rotates with the airplane.

Hmm, it can be hard for me to say but perhaps: It's quite likely that the adv ballsocket is set up in a strange way, try remake that and see if you got some settings wrong. Are the finns properly following the planes body movement? Are all the axis-angles accurate or did you make them quick and less accurate? These can be leads to solve the problem, good luck!

your plane then has a unbalance, use the mass centre chip to confirm this is the problem - soultion - check weights and fin values

it is not that sensitive, just make sure you have balanced forces that is all, probably you missed some bit so search every part or rebuild a model

Allright, did you run those propcore commands in the description then? If that for some reason will not work you can always build on a acf wire server, like GGG or realbuilders

Are the clutches nessecary to have the propeller go fast? Mine only propels the plane really slowly.

Clutches are used to accelerate the propellers, giving the engine some speed to start that first spin, but maybe your final drive is too high

My final drive is at 0.5, I've tried others such as 0.2 and 1 but those didn't work, I find that clutches dont do much when I tried them with the plane, I'm only using 1 propeller too.

You installed the propeller backwards, rotate it 180 degrees and it will work

1.2 Tonnes is okay, but do your fin controls work properly now? One thing you can do is disable drag to increase speed

I was trying, (I writed commands from description) but there was error with Setang idk why and Propfreeze also was on red, I restarted game and same. Reinstaled wire mod and same, I write commands and: "no such function: entiy:setang(angle) at line 31, char 15. when I write "wire_expression2_reload" when E2 is placed (I'm trying everything :D) I see "sv: lua/includes/extensions/string.lua:89: bad argument #1 to 'string_len' (string expected, got nil)" in console

i did it all right but the steering chips dont work and the engine, the pod controller doesnt work at i need help, also the engine doesnt fly, i used a button to start it and it doesnt even move the plane, the propellers work but they dont do anything

@@GMODISM I found out that its the pod controller that doesnt work, the pod controller doesnt work when I press the keys I linked the setang to, I also connected the engine to it to activate with the R key and it still doesnt work, the setang does work I tried it through buttons and it work, its the pod controller that isnt working, also my engines are very weak and i dont know why
