Thank you for making this tutorial! I just finished changing the blendshapes, and it all went smoothly! The only issue I had was that I couldn't find the button to add new blend shapes since I think I'm using a different version. But I was able to make all of the expressions my current model has, so that's still a win!

Argama Witch Indeed. Do you know if this can be used to tune things like independent eye movements and such? I think forcing the eyes to stay open for the wink blends might do the trick.

Hey! Using ver 0.99 and all my blendshape clips get wiped when I try to export. I'm really not sure how to fix this, I've looked at UniVRM's docs already.

Argama, there is a way to use my custom blendshapes in another models without opening unity? I've been using the same model with diff hair and clothing textures but for all of them I need to open unity, import the package, import the new VRM file and copy/paste my custom blendshapes inside the new folder created by unity and them export the model again. Is it possible to skip this process?

This was great, thank you so much! I do have a question. Whenever I try to adjust the eyes (LookRight, LookLeft), I don't seem to be able to adjust them. There's no slider for them. Any idea how to fix that?

you can do that by adding additional blendshapes in blender OR you can use the hana tool (52 blend shape tutorial onmy channel)

ok amazing... but my question is... how do i make the model imitate my face expresions while streaming... or its not posible to do that. ill put for example a streamer/youtuber named lawler.. he uses facerig and the model its not one created by him but one from there... but it does moves the eyebrows and imitates his face emotions and such. i use 3tene... it is posible to make it follow my face expresions? or what can i use for making my pj do my face expresions caught by a camera ;-;? i want to have a more lively model just like yours ;-;/ help

Vseeface has an experimental mode for imitating your face expressions but it requires a bit of work and can be a bit iffy depending on your face. Example, if you have a natural resting bitch face, you will always trigger the angry face.

@@ArgamaWitch i asked to others and this was the exact program they said to me. I downloaded it today and im very satisfied as to how it follows expressions, its not perfect cse i dont think anything ever will be but its very nice as for what im looking for. Now that i stepped out of the " i want expressions and such" it is possible for VSeeFace to track ur eyes motion with just a camera? Your tutorial worked for getting emotions build as i wanted them (still it wasnt what i was first looking for but it ended up wroking cse i needed it after xD) Anyway (sry for the testament) can i get eye tracking? Its that i saw some of the things from expressions in unity said look up, look down and such but i didnt find a way to move the irises ono

Okay, how do you make the XD face, is it just a hair mesh and then edited on unity? or...? Edit: Turns out the slider for the Eye Extra is not present in my vrm model despite the material is actually there. How do I fix this?

people tend to contact me via discord or twitter. for your issue you will need to adjust the surprise blendshape in unity. i do have a blendshape tutorial on my channel.

Hi there- I was linked to this video in a help page for the fact that when exporting a vroid model to a vrm file, the neutral expression isn't correct. Whenever I use it in any program, the neutral expression has the mouth slightly open instead of closed and there's no way to close the mouth with any tracking. So after much troubleshooting, I was sent to your video. I followed all the instructions and reached the part where I look at blendshapes. And... the one marked neutral is indeed correct. So I have no idea how to make it so the one that says neutral is the one that the file defaults to when opened in other programs. Do you have any idea how to do this? I'm just at a complete loss, I cannot use my model at all for any projects until I can make it work. I'm not about to stream or record videos if I can't close my mouth, after all. Its been weeks of troubleshooting on my end, and thats after I had given up for several months and used a pngtuber model instead because I got so frustrated. So to be clear, the expression marked neutral in both vroid and unity are correct. But when opening the vrm file in any tracking app (vseeface, hyperonline, vear, etc... i've tried it in dozens of apps), the default face has the mouth open part way and is unable to close. Open more, yes. Close, no. But there is a blend shape for closed mouth, and the neutral expression is also closed. All are default from vroid studio.

When you go to adjust the blendshapes in unity you may need to increase the slider of Fcl_MTH_Close on the neutral

Great video! I've only got one problem, though: whenever I try to export it, Unity gives me "ExportRoot must be topmost parent". Why does this happen and how can I fix it?

@@ArgamaWitch Hey! The website didn't really help, but I figured it out anyway. Apparently it all happened because I downloaded the latest version of the unity asset package (0.61.1), and by simply installing the 0.53.0 and re-doing all the expressions fix, it worked out fine! Thank you nonetheless!

I had the same problem. I know you fixed it, but for anyone else who has stumbled upon it. - On the bottom left of your screen, in the project tab, select "assets" - Click on your model you've added to Unity - On the right, in the inspector, click "open prefab" - Now export your model, it should work :)

Just fixed it somehow and hopefully this will help- I clicked on settings for "transform" and pressed "reset". It put the avatar in the centre of the scene and seems to have enabled me to export it okay. Anyways, sorry if I'm not explaining this very well and hope it can help.

those blendshapes are not saved in the file, if i start 3tene or VMagicMirror those not show me real time expresions (i selected that they can use it) excause for my bad english

would you happen to have something on how to get the proper bones and lip syncing working through unity to make your vroid into a VRChat avatar? i have gotten as far as getting a model into VRC and only having the basic bones working like the body but no lip sync and no movement of my hair XD

You can't make the tongue stick out as its not a feature of vroid. You can take it into blender to do that, but I do not know how to.

Hmm my VRM didn't come with the "Extra" blendshape for the eyes, I wonder if it was removed from newer versions of VRoid?

Great tutorial, the only thing I am missing the buttons with the emotion I can work with the files, but I seem to be missing the > < eye emotion, was that something you added or should it be a basic blendshape in there? If not, where can I get one? :o

If you are using a male model, it wont have one. Male models dont have the >< eyes

I was looking for a program where I could have my voice and show emotions and such but seems I may just end up needing a camera sadly. Thank you for all your help though! You can go into Vroid> Face Editor> Texture >Iris and there you can draw in the eyes

Hi! I'm currently fixing up my avatar and I'm having difficulty w the joy emotion bc the eyes are closed but in the ^ ^ kind of way but whenever i blink irl it also "blinks" and makes it look weird There are no blink sliders so I don't really know how to make it stop Do you have any ideas on how I can fix this?

that would be something changed in the program for tracking, which as far as I know, only luppet will allow you to use it expressions but not blink/mouth match, but doesnt just pick blinking.

I didnt have problem with them showing up, but I did have to make sure they were assigned to an express key. I do it exactly how this tutorial explains.

Hi there! Thank you for the video. I received an error for "require animator.avatar". I understand that this is caused by when the VRM is not set as a humanoid. How do I fix this? I followed your video a few times and I seem to have missed it.

argama didn't go over it in the video because i'm not sure that you need to perform this change every time, but when you start a new 3d project there's something under project settings you'll want to change. if you go to edit > project settings, find the tab that says 'player.' you'll want to change the colorspace from gamma to linear. after you do this you can import your custom package, but i've also edited this after imported my packages and had it work fine. i don't know if it will retroactively fix this issue if you've already imported the vrm model or not. i hope this helps, i was having the same issue until i found out there were installation notes in the manual, which i found here. ( vrm.dev/en/docs/univrm/install/univrm_install/ ) doing this is what fixed this problem for me.

any unity will work if it has the appropriate univrm, and when you download univrm it tells you which versions of unity it works with

Any idea why the Male Vroid Blendshapes don't work? (Specifically the eyebrows) They appear to work in Unity, and then when you export the model, they're broken.

Maybe this is a unnecessary question but...when I use the U in my models the mouth goes really small when it's at 100% like for example in MMD cause the size of the mouth is changed in VRoid. So...using this, I can adjust the "percentage " of how big or small I want the mouths and the eyes?

Like any of the blend shapes you can adjust the U sound in unity too. Just pull the slider down from 100% (I also out some O in the U for mine)

hello hello argama! i was wondering, i edited the blink to be a more upward shape using the blink and fun sliders, but in luppet it now blinks too far and clips through, despite looking fine on unity. any idea how to fix this?

also, is there a way to change the straight up default face in luppet? i want my character to have a slight smile at all times, but im unsure how to do that! anyone know if this is possible?

Luppet doesn't like to do that, sadly. Your best way is to draw the mouth slightly upturned on the face texture. That way when dont speak it still has a slight smile.

Hey thank you for this vid, really helps. Tho I painted a spider-man texture mask over my vroid model, I need to stop it from blinking, do I just delete the blendshapes?

You will need to turn the blinking (all Blinking, Blinking L and Blinking R) to 0 on the sliders

They are usually triggered with hotkeys depending on the program. If its being used in a non vrm program, I dont actually know. Sorry

sometimes, when it doesnt load properly. Best chance is to try again, and of course make sure you are on the Blendshape one, and not each individual blendshape

I'm not sure, it may be the unity version and uniVRM aren't compatible. I never had an issue with mine (my versions stated in my importing vroid to unity video)

Yeah maybe include possible errors if you're gonna make a tutorial. It's not much of one if doing exactly what you suggested, downloading from your links, leads to errors. Just a friendly heads up.

There is literally no way to know which errors you will run into because there are dozens to hundreds depending on how people do things. You can post your errors and I can try to answer, but many of the errors people tell me they run into (AFTER I MADE THE TUTORIAL) I've never run into.

@Ryden0389 when I made this I didn't know what common problems where as I didn't experience too many if any for most of my tutorials. Either way, I walk through enough, not gunna hand hold/baby feed. People can Google their errors. Can't complain too much for free info, right?
