For the tilt twist you speak of dropping your arms in the twisting plane. Is there a better way for me to visualize the twisting plane? It seems like it is more complicated than just moving an arm from straight up by your ear to straight down by your hip. Do I change where I drop my arm depending on the part of the back rotation I am in? And when do I drop the other arm? Or raise it back up? Because you are so knowledgeable about the “tilt twist” I would be very interested in a longer video breakdown of this concept! After a year of trying to teach my body how to use tilt twist I have been unsuccessful. I’m patient but I also don’t want to be missing anything.
@aerialskier
@aerialskier 3 жыл бұрын
it is complex and a lot of it is feel, when you do hit the right plane you'll actually feel a momentum kind of force that you can use. Whilst in theory you can drop your arm to the side, if you've already started to contact twist off the surface, dropping an arm to "your" side will no longer be in the twisting plane. The plane is perpendicular to your flip, so before you start, look sideways and find a pole or some kind of marker against a wall, and that where your arm or arms need to drop, and likewise lift to undo the twist. You can start the movement at any point in the flip, just after take-off or upside down or right before you land, you can experiment with doing a "switch" right before you land and there will be a reaction. As mentioned in other videos also, there are multiple ways to twist and using all of the techniques is correct, you don't want to solely rely on tilt either, you can but you might as well help yourself with contact and cat twist in the right proportions. - as per instagram question - ideally you keep your head still. if you stand up close your eyes and turn around on the spot you will find it it easier to do it with your head neutral, if you tip your head from side to side you'll find your balance is compromised. obviously if you open your eyes it's easier, so when spinning with eyes open you can spot something to start with and spot the ground as you prepare yourself to 'untilt' but in the middle, just keep your head still. When learning it's not unusual to get lost in the air, but by repeating the same process over and over you start to realise that you know what will happen next because you get 'lost' the same way everytime and then it starts to become familiar and you know what is going to happen next. (looking for the ground isn't wrong, but it can break your body line and therefore make your twist less efficient with a wobbling shape. if you absolutely must look, try and look with your eyes rather than with an excessive head tilt because your shoulders are highly likely to follow your head movement.

Ive been trying to figure out the best position for the arms while twising, in competition (for trampoline at least) its preferred down by your side but generally I see people fold their arms in when doing fast twists. I'd assume arms straight down would be a straighter shape and twist faster, but perhaps it's better to fold your arms by your chest to maximise the big-small shape change

Hi David! Any tips on how to keep your legs together while doing double twists? My legs tend to split but I still spin around very fast
@aerialskier
@aerialskier 3 жыл бұрын
typically this means you've twisted off the ground and they're scissoring from the start, this is hard to get back to being together. Alternatively it means you're "trying" to spin faster with your upper body than you are actually twisting. If you want to spin fast, squeeze tight and inwards towards your centre on rotation and it will get faster on it's own. your legs will stay together and your body will move as one unit, the moment you segment to "try" and spin, things fall apart and away from you. If that doesn't work, i have some exercises for strength

You had said in the video that there is no forwards or backwards twisting. I have my front double full yet i can’t do a back full. Any tips?
@aerialskier
@aerialskier 4 жыл бұрын
Very interesting - can you do a front 1.5? If so then you already know the feeling of how to finish a back full. Plenty of tips and drills in the How to do a GOOD backfull video. Since you can already twist i suspect these build ups won't be difficult for you. Otherwise - work the back layout, and you can think, half turn into a barani out.

Just a question on landing. When you are about to stop, you simply stretch your arm or swing the arm in the inverse direction to remove the tilt?
@aerialskier
@aerialskier 4 жыл бұрын
there has to be a movement to oppose the initial tilt created, just putting your arms up will slow down your flip rotation but will not slow down your twist. There are so many ways to do this that it'd take forever to explain them all and the combinations of them all, but to 'untilt' there must be a movement within the twisting plane.

@@aerialskier did you ever have a chance to look at it?
@aerialskier
@aerialskier 2 жыл бұрын
@@tuckergoodrich6473 needs a few adjustments. I would suggest a stronger takeoff position, at the moment your arms are by your sides as you hit the tramp and a more correct method would be to have them up by your ears to then use them for drops. You have an interesting technique of winding your right arm around past your face into a half drop which is the tilt twist but because your arms are bent they are less effective than a straight powerful arm movement. You definitely need some more rotation and for safety you need to keep your knees and feet together. Be more patient on the takeoff and get rotation first before moving any arms into the twist

Hi david, hopefully you can help me with my back twisting problem: I taught myself the wrong way (really early twisting and travelling 3 feet to the side, the freerun way) and now i can't unlearn it. If I focus on doing the backflip first I can't do it because of a mental block I guess and I can't get over it. Do you have like a mental tip or something like that which can help me?
@aerialskier
@aerialskier 3 жыл бұрын
As lame as it will sound you'll probably need to learn it from from the basics again. I have videos on doing a h, backsault, backfull and then the doublefull. Start at a i and work through each skill doing all the suggested drills, if nothing else - wit the intent to regain full control and refinement of your movements so that your body does what you want it to rather than doing whatever it wants. Knowing you can and will do what you plan in your head removes most fears, and the way to achieve that is to have control over every little movement to start with.

I'm surprised no coach has picked up on this. I have some other videos on full twisting that would be of use to you, honestly I'd recommend starting from the basics and working back up with better technique. If you have any videos you'd like to link me to here I'd be happy to look and pick them apart/offer solutions Easiest solution is to keep your head very neutral (easier said than done), keeping a single solid unit shape, everything in line will be your fastest and most efficient twisting position, obviously looking for the ground is important but emphasis on the timing is also relevant, there is a correct to look, and a correct place to look

@@aerialskier ok and my coaches have picked up on it but my old coach taught me how to twist wrong and can you explain what it feels like upside down pulling one way because I can pull one way now but it causes me to twist off the ground and I compete in trampoline gymnastics so I need good form
@aerialskier
@aerialskier 3 жыл бұрын
@@trevorhaskins5040 this is the joy of physics. You don't have to pull to any side, you just drop one arm and it will spin, you'll need to repeat the process over and over the same way and you'll begin to realise you're feeling the same thing each time even though it feels a bit foreign at first. Then you will start to realise you know what's coming next because you've felt it before.

backwards travel is most likely a result of you leaning back too far on take-off. (as in - your body is tipped back a long way from your point of contact with the trampoline) Whilst leaning back does assist in creating the rotation it also leads to heavy travel so you're goal will be to press your hips on take-off and and then drive the rotation by lifting your feet, rather than leaning backwards too far to create the 'flip'. i would recommend watching some of my other skill build-up videos which cover some drill to assist with this. Good luck
