On my Edge 800 the screen appeared to be held in with some sort of double sided adhesive foam, as once I got a small knife blade in it was easy to slice through it. Label Off fluid helped removing the remnants, although in hindsight I could have run that around the edges first to soften the glue. Also I separated the two case halves first.

What is the difference between the touch screen and the digitizer on the Edge 1030. Can they be separated? Does 1 plug into the other? Thanks.

Yes, they can be separated and touch screen part plugs into the digitizer. You must be delicate when handling ribbons on screens however and it is possible that you damage the digitizer when applying a touch screen on garmin edge devices
