Is the m10m still in production? I heard somewhere that they still make them. My family is in the army surplus business and I’m always surprised to see our suppliers restock on hundreds of these masks at a time.

Nope, they are long time discontinued. M-10Ms were made by Gumárny Zubří - the company which currently makes OM-90, CM-6M and OM-2020 respirators. The reason why you can get them in such quantities is simply because there are still many in existence, especially in Central Europe. They cost next to nothing, mainly because they are borderline useless.

@@cbrnacademythank you for answering my questions. I like to use an m10m because it’s cheap and I go shooting with it to make it more challenging

Is the filters safe to breath through?

They're safe although old and unreliable for most possible disaster scenarios. Good for protection against particles but that's it.

Sorry for super late question, i used an M10 gasmask with the white 'riot' filters and i am currently having a dry throat + a nose bleed afterwards, i am quite concerned wether or not i just swallowed chromium or i am simply just being paranoid

Hi there! Some people used the M-10 rather extensively on our civil defense trainings and no one ever had any sort of health problems. Chromium was present in the cheek filters of some very old US gas masks but even in these cases the amount of it was not substantial and thus not hazardous. The M-10 filters are safe, but very old and at this point they provide very little protection apart from particle filtration. What you might have inhaled is the powder that was meant to preserve the rubber. It's always a good idea to wash masks like these with a lukewarm soap water before wearing to remove the powder and rubber crumblings from the inside of the facepiece. As I said, the masks are old and don't age well.

@@cbrnacademy Thank christ, i had an early mid-life crisis in my head. Going to get the mask a nice washing. I was just going to use it for cosplay reasons so the protection value just needs to be physical to survive mild movement. Many thanks!

@@cbrnacademy If i may, i am having trouble turning the inlet grids since i have the M-10, do i have to knock off the metal wire running inside? I don't want to accidentally scratch up the entire thing just to turn it and there is 0 videos or guides on how to do it. Cheers

@@The-nr6yg I wanted to include the spring removal process in the video but I wasn't willing to pay for another crappy surplus mask just for this small addition. Yes, you need to remove the spring first, then you can rotate the grid freely. Use some pointy thin tool to grab one end of the spring from the bottom and it will jump out of its place. Once you turned the grid, attached the spring back with your fingers. Repeat with the second valve ;)

I wonder how the us saw this as practical🤔

I guess it was their idea of low-profile filters back then. This system has some advantages, for example very low breathing resistance, better balancing since no heavy filter is sticking out on one side... But negatives outweigh the positives.

I love cheek filter masks just hate changing filters but I love look and ig it makes sense if you got into hand to hand combat and you're opponent trys unscrewing you're filter

Soldiers aren't trained to change filters, instead troops are sent into combat for an estimated amount of time, then are rotated out where the filters for the mask were replaced by specialists trained to do so.
