In this tutorial we'll be doing sound design on a mechanical swan animation! We'll get our sound effects from Soundly, and we'll be using Davinci Resolve to layer, edit and put together the audio.

I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial. I loved your first sound design video but I always wanted to dive into more advanced and complex sound design. Now with this video I can! Thanks Polyjford.👍.And thanks for the code, it will be very useful.

Thanks!!! Althought in certain aspects my previous sound design tutorial might be more advanced in different ways (like adding reverb and such). But I think this tutorial covers more in-depth how I usually work with sound design, especially on these mechanical projects. So they should complement eachother nicely!

Hey thanks so much!! Yeah my initial plan for this tutorial was to write down a long clever document on everything I think are important to think about when doing sound design. Then I realized I'd much rather just sit down and record my entire process! So hopefully it's valuable for some. Thanks for watching!
@oodoodoopoopoo

@@Polyfjord - I enjoy this format from you most. It feels more natural and you do a great job of editing it down. Makes me wonder which is more efficient. It seems that planning it out extensively ahead of time would take more time up front but would save in the recording and editing time. I think it'd be inverse to planning less upfront and then recording an entire session, which might increase the editing time due to selectivity in trying to whittle it down.

something that could help brainstorming the sounds a bit, you can add markers in Resolve, title them with the relevant sounds, you can export the markers as text with timestamps :), then when you drag sounds back in they will auto-snap to markers as well.

For a scrape, two items are sliding on each other, but they remove small fragments of each other as they slide: the car scraped against the concrete barrier. A creak is when two items (typically wood or metal) are not smoothly sliding: the old hinges on the door creaked on the house. A squeak is like a creak, but is more like one fluid sound, normally more high pitched than a creak: the worn car brakes squeaked as the old car came to a stop. A creak sounds like: rra-a-a-a-a-a-a... A squeak sounds like: eeeeeek... Hope this helps!

Completely useless comment here, but there are some low latency wireless headphones like the TMA-2 Studio providing an advertised 16ms latency (cable is 5-10ms). They require an external device that you plug in your sound output but this can be useful if you move a lot in your studio during your recording session. They are also probably more accurate than standard consumer headphones or ear pods. Other than that, I can't wait to try Soundly. Thanks for the video. 🙂

How did you make the gears work perfectly like that? Love it!
@oodoodoopoopoo
@oodoodoopoopoo Жыл бұрын
Probably drivers. For instance, if you have two gears with a ratio 2:1, you can drive the rotation of the larger gear by referencing the rotation of the smaller gear and dividing it by two. Just add a driver to the appropriate rotation transform of the larger gear with the expression "-(var/2)" and point "var" to represent the appropriate rotation transform of the smaller gear object. Now when you rotate the smaller gear, the larger gear will rotate in the opposite direction at half the rotation.
