TUTORIAL: Preview Manual Inspection in Fusion 360

Process specialist Richard Stubley, shows us how to use the new Manual Inspection preview in Fusion 360. This allows inspection routines to be set, then using inspection equipment complete the pre defined sequence. This is excellent for inspecting those on off jobs, or tracking the quality of your components over a production run.

This is a great feature! Would love to see tablet option. Also, is adding functionality for a Faro arm in the works?

So you need some form of permanent identification for each of the parts, otherwise the traceability is a matter of opinion, not record. A barcode reader input and a means of driving a laser barcoder or engraving a unique barcode on each part would be helpful. Are they in the pipeline?

Is there a way to use the machine probe to take the measurements of the parts to do this exact same process?

For manual inspection we can have a simple excel sheet report, it will be better if you have inspection done through a sub program via a probe with automatic data transfer to fusion and thus creating a detailed analysis of inspection. This will avoid human intervention and human errors. You can also go one step ahead if the tolerance on any side is varying fusion should communicate with motion controller to automatically do tool wear offsets.

Hi Sunil, do you mean an excel report over the HTML? You can copy and paste from the show results table to get the results from fusion 360 into other packages. Have you seen Inspect Surface and Probe Geometry functions inside of Fusion 360 currently? They are practically doing exactly that, using the probe to inspect the part, and also using the probe to stop the machine and update tool wear.

Hey, I've never used one of those before, but all it needs is the numbers sent over the USB like a keyboard. It shouldn't need any configuration. Plug it in, and give it a go. Let me know how you get on please.

Cool, it would be great to have the option to create a printable version of the inspection sequence, with comments and images as instructions

Hey Mirko, we are trying to save a few trees but completely understand where your coming from. Out of interest are you wanting to print because PC's are not where the inspection is taking place? The inspector does not have a fusion licence? Would being able to enter this data on a tablet or mobile device be a solution? This is really early doors, but we are looking for the community to help work with us on how this to make something you want to use not have to use.

@@richardstubley9611 The main reason for my concern is the place of the inspection, not really clean enough for a PC nor a tablet. I perfectly understand the reason of avoiding a waste of paper (and really appreciate it). But what I was thinking about is more a set of instruction to print one time only, maybe even to plasticize it and to write on it with a marker just the last set of measurements. Anyhow, it's really a cool feature :)

This needs to be done on a web page so each machine can have a laptop rather than bogging up the CadCam pc.

Hi Stuart, this is high on our radar, there are a few options we are still debating the best route to go. By webpage I'm guessing you are thinking so a phone or tablet can access this? We have also had requests for printable paper instructions by people who just cannot have delicate electronics in the manufacturing environment.
