Hi Dave - Thank you so much for the great videos and this networking book review, is there a a Linux tutorial book that you recommend ? I look forward to hear from you.

+Eautarky Eautarku This is kind of a crazy huge book, but it's the best Unix/Linux book I've read: UNIX and Linux System Administration Handbook (4th Edition) by Evi Nemeth and Garth Snyder. It's *so good*, and *so readable*. Works great as a reference or as a novel.

Hey, Should We read this book before or after your unix and bash tutorials. Thanks.

Depends on your learning style. If you're just getting your first taste of Linux and Unix, I'd recommend watching some videos and playing with an actual Linux install before investing in a big, heavy book. On the other hand, if you're serious about learning System Administration, there's no harm in adding it to your library before you understand all of it. In general, it's a really good book that's suitable for a wide range of beginning and intermediate sysadmins.

Oops, I was thinking this was the "Unix and Linux System Administration Handbook" review video. My bad! Yeah, you should definitely have a grasp of Linux basics before diving into this book.

Do you have a list somewhere of your 10 best books for Linux Admins?
@tutoriaLinux8 жыл бұрын
Sure! I've got a 'books to read' list on the website, although I'll be making some additions soon: tutorialinux.com/sysadmin-learning-resources/sysadmin-software-books/

Awesome, thanks. I need some new reading material. On a similar topic do you know if there is a place that they have linux labs? I'm looking for something similar to Cisco Packet Tracer. I've googled just about every variation of Linux Labs and come up with nothing but study guides which are nice but my learning style is more of a doer. I don't mind just playing with the system but I find it less productive when I don't have a defined goal.

Do you know if this book is from 2019 or 2014, and what edition it is? Amazon says 2019, but in the book preview it shows 2014, and i see no indication of an edition. If its from 2014, do you still consider this as valid and not dated? What other sys admin books can you recommend? Thanks
@tutoriaLinux2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there are a bunch of editions; the bulk of the material is fine in the 2014 version, but get the fifth edition (2019) if you’re interested in a better systemd section, a container section, some more cloud content, etc.

@@tutoriaLinux Thanks for the info!! Where can I find the edition info? Is there a particular place you found the different listed editions? I don't really see anything on amazon or on his website about edition info.

Sorry, I totally bungled my response (travel and jetlag). I replied thinking you were asking about the unix and linux sustem administrators handbook. My bad! I don’t know of editions for this one but I suspect anything will work because the low level networking stuff hasn’t changed in decades in the operating systems he covers.
