"Oh, throw Katie on. She'll be fine." The more things change.... 😂😂😂 Jokes aside, it was pure joy to see you dance the true classical Sugarplum - the version I grew up with and have always loved the best, if we're honest. There's something almost Marianela-esque about your dancing here and I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's there. Absolutely stunning work.

I think this was probably my favourite Vlogmas so far; at least for this year. Jumping in to play the Sugarplum Fairy at the last minute, and it was the Classical version you hadn't done before, communicating and working so well with Raffa during rehearsal when you didn't even know him before that, Sean was hilarious as usual, and I loved your students' energy too.

You and Alladson were just so lovely, as was the whole cast. I love how this tutu is so fluffy when you dance. Your Kansas partner was wonderful as well.

Superstar stepping in at the last minute. I've seen Sir Peter Wright's Nutcracker the most (it's the version The Australian Ballet does) and it is a slightly different take again - so many gargulliades!!! You danced beautifully. As always, thank you for sharing! :)

So when you say "classical" sugarplum what exactly do you mean? Is it a specific version like more Russian/French style or just simply separate from Balanchine? I'm curious!

Katie I’ve only ever seen Balanchine nutcracker (not a bun head 😂) What’s the main differences between it and the classical?
@kathryn_morgan2 жыл бұрын
It’s completely different choreography and a different take on it. The classical is more placed and “queenly”- think Sleeping Beauty. It’s also softer. The Balanchine builds more, is “freer”, and is “dance-y-er”. BUT… it’s far riskier. There are many places that are totally hit or miss. So both have their lovely moments! I would say that in my opinion, the classical solo is more difficult than Balanchine’s but the classical pas de deux is easier than the Balanchine. But that’s just my take!
@catherinecarney25072 жыл бұрын
Chris sounded a bit stressed in the background. I want to live in one of the houses Sean was driving by in Columbus. The classical version is the one that BW does. I grew up watching Ruth Page's version in Chicago, and I think they also did the classical version or a variation of it.

Katherine, pretty please put the membership level on the title name of a members only class or video. Like the first words in the title. Its annoying to click on a class only to have it pop up that it’s for higher levels. When you are paying for a lower level because thats what you can afford, its kind of a “gotcha” to click only to find out it’s not in your level
