I was a character performer in 2016-2017 in Florida. I was friends with Tinker Bell, it wasn’t as magical as I thought it would be though. Loads of ego, judgment and competition. It was a dream of mine though, after I got injured from ballet when I was 16. I needed a new dream, and Disney was it so I’m thankful for that opportunity! The best thing that came out of it was I met my husband from Scotland, who was also working there! I love your channel, you inspire me so much!

I did a Christmas season, competed with over 200 participants, and took one important role, It was amazing, for me the most important is that ballet is about Beauty and being strong and making friends

As a kid in Nutcracker, I remember feeling like I had met my celebrity idol when our principal Sugar Plum first acknowledged me (she had been in Center Stage as well which was my whole world back then)! And then getting to do class on stage with her later on in my time in Nutcracker, my 12 year old self could not fathom it! And to this day she’s maybe the only person in my ballet environment who truly believed in me and advocated for me (and could say my name correctly!), like it meant a lot. We are still connected on social media to this day years after I left ballet. But that’s so true, I truly appreciated the principals and senior members of the company giving little me the time of day and I’m so glad you were able to be that role model interacting with young dancers - truly means the world to a young dancer, take it from my younger self!
@catalinacruz78012 жыл бұрын
Wait, which person from Center Stage? I was obsessed with that movie.

You two are a crack-up! I definitely know people who do plie - tendu - whack-a-leg for their warmup, but I've never heard someone describe it so well! Also, I'm from KS and it is very dry in the winter, but so humid in the summer - that's the Midwest for you! Thanks for making me laugh this morning!

Man, I just can't stop laughing. ..🤣🤣🤣...SO funny!!! Between the -'tippy-toe shoes' in the last vlog, the call-back with forgetting your ice skates,, spin for Jesus, whack a leg and the Zamboni skipping a night... phew I can't breathe from laughing 😂 I needed that! Thank you! This time of year (and today in particular) marks so much loss for me. Plus, I just found out that I for sure have Hashimoto's - after pleading for help and my symptoms being overlooked for so long. And now trying to find the person willing to treat it in a more rounded way than just T4...sigh. You are truly inspiring and so beautiful to watch, Katie! I was also friends with an actress/dancer a loooong time ago that had been hired to play Cruella De Vil on the cruise ship. I do remember her having to wear just the right shoes to qualify for the height to be cast - she was like 1/4" too tall, but they ok'd it.. She did the parades in like Chicago and other big cities before the cruise. I don't know if she continued after the first 6-8 month contract bc I moved away shortly thereafter and we lost touch. I just remember her having a heck of a time adapting to the tight crew quarters and needing sea legs.

The second I saw Sean I immediately said to myself 'Oh my gosh it's Phillip' - seriously you're the perfect live action Phillip ! The second thing I said was- and that's the most perfect hair I've ever seen- you have the perfect thick hair to create that perfect hair style- And then you said that you were aiming for "the classic prince Eric swoop" (in the other video) and I was like - Yes. He gets it. I like him even more now. Disney love is so pure- and it just makes me like you two even more!!!! And when you think about it- the original traditionally animated Disney princess films are actually very balletic - Tchaikovsky inspired, I think all live action Disney films now should have professional ballet dancers in those roles because the poise and grace of movement and musicality in ballet is the poise and grace of movement that those original films were inspired by, and that they have. Its part of the beautiful, seamless magic. They are fairytales and they exist in a transcendent way within the cultural imagination. So the poise and grace of ballet is what inspired Walt himself when he chose the best way in which to present these fairytales within his films, and that is the wistful, breathtaking beauty and enchantment of them. I think Kenneth Brannagh managed to capture the wistful beauty and grace of this in Cinderella, but the rest of them didnt seem to understand that that is an essential part of them, and so they missed the mark on that transcendent fairytale quality. They would definitely have benefited from that Romantic, wistful, transcendant balletic quality and musicality. So I've just decided by myself hehe, you two need to be the next live action Disney Princess and Prince 😘 You'd be perfect. Kathryn you would be a perfect Snow White , Sean could literally play either ( or both just go for it) Prince Eric or Prince Phillip- you look like a mixture of both, just slightly leaning towards Phillip bc of your colourings . I don't know if there are Disney ballets but there should be - ballets based on the actual traditional Disney films - you would both be perfect for that. I somehow want to make that happen.

So Sean and Kathryn… I am the ultimate Disney nerd my parents both worked and met working at Disneyland for 25 years. I spent my whole life at Disneyland and even worked at Disneyland for 2.5 years. I danced everything not just ballet until I was 15 and sadly had to stop due to injury and money because I was also in choir. I wanted to study music so I stopped dancing. It’s hilarious to me watching you mention Disney being your secret fandom and wanting to play prince Eric. I have always wanted to dance in a Disneyland parade.

I’ve never been a character. However, my mother was a seamstress for Disney and when I was little I was able to sit through auditions and watch her measure the dancers and characters. My nephew's sister in law was Cinderella for many years in Florida. She loved it when she did it, had certain rules she had to follow and the sun was very difficult to handle in costume and makeup some days. She doesn't talk about it and when you ask her about it, she dismisses the questions easily and just smiles. The only thing she ever told me was when you go there with school age kids, always meet at the entrance if you get lost and tell an employee... meaning have the same meeting/exit point. She also said they have an entire police department underground so a lot of the "scary" news never gets to the public. Spin for Jesus, whack a leg.... priceless! So funny! You two really need a podcast!

I'm not a dancer, so I could be wrong, but when Sean said "whack a leg," was he really talking about battements? Also, I can understand how it'd be hard to balance being friendly and interacting with the dancers from the studio that's hosting you, with being safe and staying in your COVID bubble, because you can't stay entirely in the bubble, because you have ensemble dancers dancing all around you while you're dancing the principal roles. Another challenge would be if there are children in the show, playing children's roles (like the mice, for example), who might not yet be fully vaccinated. Even if you do everything right, there's probably that fear of, say, "what if the mice have class after us, and the person who cleaned the studio missed a spot, and one of the kids touched the barre in the same place that we did?" But, I'm happy for you that you still got to do this, because maintaining Christmas traditions like the Nutcracker is so good for people's morale and mental health, whether they're dancing in the show, or seeing it--not to mention that, for professional dancers, missing out on Nutcracker season could hurt you financially.
