I really enjoy this channel. I'm a big fan of aeriel and satellite installations and enjoy seeing them be put up.

Those tri boom wideband aerials are all show and no go! Ridiculously large and give no better gain than a log.
@frimleyfrodo2 жыл бұрын
Definitely the case, especially at group A frequencies. Nightmare to fit in lofts and with wind loading in exposed locations. Logs are definitely the way to go whenever possible.

Hi, happy New Year, Great video on the 2nd install did you upgrade the wall mount bracket & the Bungalow Last install did you upgrade the lashing kit, chimney bracket and mast, or fit to the existing rig ?🤔
@aardvarkinstalls2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, no I didn’t need to. On the 2nd one I fitted a new mast & V Bolts to the existing T & K bracket which was absolutely fine, and the bungalow the lashing kit was also fine, I just fitted new V Bolts and 6ft mast.

Great video. Really enjoyed seeing how you do things. Happy new year to you. I’ve used a couple of Vision group A log periodics where I’ve needed better gain on a group A transmitter, quite impressed.

All UK transmitters are now a Group A or Group A/K as they are being marketed.

Interesting videos thank you. You mentioned 80 db gain as too high and 72 db as acceptable but what would you ideally aim for by way of db gain on any one multiplex? I ask as I am just about to fit a group K in a new build loft with a Wolsey mast head 4 powered splitter and have a meter that measures both signal and quality (not a pro meter but better than a measure all 3 light job) Keep up the good work!
@aardvarkinstalls2 жыл бұрын
Hi there and thanks for the question. Ideally you want to be aiming for around 65-71 dB at the outlet point (TV socket). So you have to take into consideration what the readings are first in the loft with just the aerial connected directly to your meter, then decide what you need to fit in order to have the levels at the correct range at the outlet. So like you saw in that vid, i had 82 dB at the end of the cable that was long enough to reach the other TV cables in the loft, so do i need to amplify at all?? No, because the levels are already too high. If i had aligned the aerial and the strongest signal strength i got off any of the frequencies was say 51 dB then i would calculate how much dB i would need off an amplifier or masthead powered splitter as you say to get me to the required levels at the outlet. Take into consideration the loss you get from the cable distance, the outlet itself and the fly lead too. Its not a rule of thumb to stick a booster or amplifier on everytime as you could be doing more harm than good, so check your levels first then make the decision.

Wideband aerials are open to interference from high frequency signals such as WiFi for Broadband or CCTV or other plug in devices - Best avoid!

Absolutely mate. I do avoid them, I haven’t fitted them in years now.

It looks to me like you are connecting a balanced antenna to an unbalanced coax. I think you need a balun in that circuit.
