Yes, there certainly was a lot of jobs lost.. and a sense of identity for regional areas.. we used to have fun things like all night movie marathons.. now we get infomercials.. like that was a good idea! I'm not sure about Chris.. I still have family in the area but I left in '89 and haven't really been back. But the work just wasn't there anymore.. Cheers for dropping by..

@TheRimRider Thanks for the detailed reply. As for Wangaratta, Yarrawonga etc, what area did they identify themselves with predominately? Did the majority of aerials in the town point to Mt Major or Mt Baranduda?

@ElliottsFather yes youre right on those people, who were all still there when I worked there in the eighties. Nice guys too. If there was egg cartons they were gone when I was there, but there was very limited budget and I think they did okay with what they had. They produced a lot of local programming which was all lost when the regionals were basically taken over by the national networks. A sad day for rural Australia. Those stations became 'shells' of their former selves. Pun intended. :)

@MicMogul You seem to know a fair bit about the area.. a local? Im pretty sure it was Mt Major.. we went into Wang and Yarrawonga.. and lower NSW... the Greater Shepperaton area was obviously our biggest audience.. but we'd turn up in unexpected areas.. depending on peoples aerials also....

The "stick it up" comments at 5:44 for the towns on the edge of the local area prompt me to ask, what was the station approach for these towns? Did you make a big effort of marketing in those towns, were the sales reps active there; or was it simply a case of overspill that the station was glad to have?
@AJLangford13 жыл бұрын
@MicMogul Those bigger towns had their own stations in those days-the ones the late Don Nicolson refers too.. so they were competition.. however many people could pick up the 3 stations in the area, but local businesses usually advertised with their own local.. im not positive but a couple of the bigger local companys did advertise further afar.. but not being in sales, i can't provide a more detailed answer.. it was healthy competition.. all gone now of course..
