talokan may have only now appeared in the mcu, but namor himself is one of marvel's very first A-list characters (from 1939!). he's been both villain and hero whose bottomless arrogance seems to be one of his super-powers. in the comics atlantis is his home (similar to his dc counterpart aquaman, who would be created two years later}. it only took marvel almost 85 years to give namor and his kingdom any live-action attention. and props to the effects artists for making his tiny ankle-wing aerobatics not look ridiculous. imperius rex!

I did like how this entire movie was just one big tribute to Chadwick Boseman. They had an entire funeral for T’Challa, they showed Black Panther in the Marvel Studios intro and everything. All I can say is; when one panther tragically falls, another panther will rise.

This is a Harley Quinn moment. Aka an instance where an onscreen concept is so much better than the original comic book material that it's worth a retcon. Namor's name in the comic had no meaning beyond Stan Lee thinking it sounded cool. And Atlantis as a whole was a cool concept but lacked much thematic depth. This version of the character is extremely compelling.

“Vengeance has consumed us” does that sound familiar?? It’s to T’Challa’s lines in Civil War: “Vengeance has consumed them, it has consumed you. I’m done letting it consume me”. T’Challa and Shuri had very similar acceptances to their responsibilities as Black Panther. T’Challa’s journey began with him seeking vengeance for his father, Shuri’s began with seeking vengeance for her mother. In the end, they both came to the same conclusion.

Namor is also a mutant, called the first mutant. This was another of the steps Marvel has been taking to introduce mutants into the MCU. Thats why he doesn't need to actually drink the herb, because his power was genetic.

This is an important piece of information that they unfortunately couldn't communicate explicitly in the film. It totally changes the way you watch it. They tried their best to convey Namor's strength, but if you ever watch this film with someone who doesn't know, it's best to mention that.

To be clear: Reed Richards once had the clever idea of keeping Namor away from water to reduce his strength level. By Reed's calculation it would take 6-8 months before Namor's strength was reduced sufficiently as to give Reed even a small chance of victory. However, the Human Torch's power does dramatically increase the rate at which Namor weakens.

BPs get enhanced ability with inj3stion of vibration. Shuri was even in the fight becuz of preplanning.

I feel like this movie... was the goodbye that we all needed for Chadwick. Not just us the audience, but the cast and crew who worked with him. You don't always think of them grieving an actor, but my impression is that they struggled even more than the rest of us with his passing... because they got to work with him directly and feel the true strength of character that he had all along

There was not a single sound made in the theater all through the first few minutes up through the Marvel title card. Where T'Challa saw his father because he wanted to rule with peace, Shuri saw Kilmonger because they both wanted to rule with power and burn the world with revenge. Both were the same ancestral plane. The montage of Chadwick at the end, was all unused footage from the first movie. In the comics, Shuri held the Black Panther title as well. So this was still comic accurate to that extent. I think they did the best they could with upholding Chadwick's BP and also trying to continue the sotry.

Nooooo, the defense system isn’t just on land. We know that from Avengers Infinity Wars when they are protected by the dome. Coogler, the director, is a very very deep brother. He’s insinuated that the writers wanted to connect the land of Wakanda and its people to the people of South America. Which has a real life speculation going. There are very close similarities between artifacts in ancient South America that resemble African pieces. Asking the question, are we the same or just extremely similar. The reason why Namor got in with no problem, is because he and his people are but a different tribe from the same land of Wakanda.

Namor is one of the strongest beings in marvel, both in mind and body. Hes one of the oldest mutants and gave Wakanda, the most advanced nation on earth for the last 5,000 years, a run for its money. He smashed Mr Fantastics wife and is on Dooms level of respect by the superheroes. Id put more respect on namors name lol.

So I like Shuri more after this story, because she had to learn something instead of just being a prodigy at everything. In the comics Riri Williams had that issue too, hopefully they will grow her better in the future MCU stories than just the 1st introduction. Namor in the comics was the 1st mutant, obviously in the MCU technically he is too, since he was born before Kamala Khan. (In the comics Kamala Khan was an Inhuman because Marvel didn't want to give Fox another mutant that they could ruin in their movies. Inhumans was a made for TV movie that I beg you do NOT watch.) The wings on Namor's feet was a carry over from the comics, it is a mark of his mutant ability plus indicates he can fly even though those wings couldn't do it.

I enjoyed this one, but Chadwick's absence was palpable. You can see the movie they wanted to make. Going in, I was concerned about Namor. In the comics, he's from Atlantis, not Mexico. But they wanted to differentiate him from DC's Aquaman. But overall, I like what they did with the character. I just would have liked to see him go toe to toe with T'challa.

Idk why you retracted saying you liked this one better than the first. It was objectively a better movie than the first. People are so hung up on T'Challa and Chadwick not being in this movie that they are essentially holding his death against this movie. I thought it was great. Honestly a better movie than the first. And Namor is known as the first mutant. He has a long complicated history with Wakanda, Avengers, and also the X-Men (as the first mutant). Also Shuri saw Killmonger in the astral plane because of the rage in her heart and her desire for revenge. Iron Heart/Riri Williams was introduced for her new show coming out and eventual Young Avengers.

Meh - in my opinion this film was not better than the first BP. I believe even Ryan Coogler was disinterested in the film after having to hard pivot after the tragic news. Leticia Wright does not have Chadwick's acting chops. Angela Basset and Tenoch(Namor) IMO kept this movie afloat. I did not like the choice to have Shuri be BP because as we see, she did not take the mantle for the right reasons. Nakia would have been dope to see become the new protector. In all honesty I was kind of annoyed with RiRi's character too. Disney needs to rethink that series since it will likely only go the way of recent Marvel projects aside from Deadpool 3 in terms of popularity.
