This song is just incredible. There is something so hauntingly beautiful about it. A love note, and a warning all at once. Deep lyrics with music that feels somehow vintage, timeless, and new all at the same time. Then there's that infectious groove that you just can't get out of your head. Songs like this are why I love music so much

This sounds like the end of a relationship. Constant back and forth should you stay or should you leave and you want to leave but you can't because it's so hard and you ache for the sweet old days and good times but it's so hard to make up your mind. The timing is never right to try to make it work and there is just too much in the way to make it work again. The secret of a kiss to melt away all the pain of past mistakes but only temporarily. That's why it's so hard to leave for good.

I am a new fan and this is my favorite song at the moment! A lot of fans seem to be dissapointed with their new work... all I have to say to that is WOW... then I can't wait to hear their older music if it is superior to this because this is on POINT. I love the themes of uncertainty and hope (at least that is what I gather). Also, the end (around 4:27)- I love the sounds!!! They make me feel so nostalgic. I just cannot explain! I love this song!!!
@franklinknights5110 жыл бұрын

Vivian123, folks that are disappointed with their new work forgot that they lost a member to cancer, and it takes time to sort of ...gel with a new member, like, the chili peppers working out the kinks with their newest guitarist, that's not to say this album isn't good, it is.. just a bit short, in my opinion. I believe that six of the twelve tracks are nice, and 50/50 aint bad. I still believe "Dear Science" (2008) was their best complete album.
@franklinknights5110 жыл бұрын
I would think that losing a member to cancer would lead to more emotional and profound lyrics...but maybe I'm wrong. I don't think "gelling" as a band has anything to do with how lyrics are written as much as it does with performance. And the sound/performance is still top notch, so I don't think it's much of a factor at all.

@_Arkane9 жыл бұрын
Same here. It doesn't have to be all the same. If they want to try new things yet maintain that TVotR feel then I'm with it. This album is really good, but if people don't like it that's fine, but don't say they sold out or are trying to be too mainstream because that's a lie. Also who cares if they change it up to bring in more people. Their older albums still stands strong and you should want more people to hear this band. I know I do.
@jordanmayer593210 жыл бұрын
I actually quite enjoy the synth-indie rock sound their pursuing; it reminds me very much of mgmt or gorillaz. I was a HUGE fan of their old stuff for the soulish R&B style roots, but i'm quite pleased with their individuality, and this is coming from a metalhead. Cant wait to see them Nov 12th in Toronto.
@Cthulhu01310 жыл бұрын
I do as well. 5 years ago, I would be reluctant to say it, as there were mostly only bands and artists out there that relied entirely on "bubblegum beats" But now we have rock artists, evolving their sound to suit a more modern style, while still sticking to the roots. Some notable examples, at least of what I listen to are Yeah Yeah Yeahs(Itz Blitz and Mosquito), Arctic Monkeys (AM), Arcade Fire (The Suburbs and Reflektor), and even Noel Gallagher is giving it a go with his High Flying Birds especially his recent single from the new album Chasing Yesterday, 'In The Heat Of The Moment'. And now TVOTR seems to be trying it, although I think they went with a more subtle approach at it with Nine Types Of Light, as if to test the waters on a few songs.
@user-vi4xy1jw7e10 жыл бұрын
David W Phoenix's Bankrupt is another good example.
@jordanmayer593210 жыл бұрын
I gotta agree with all you guys! I think that the sound is yes, a different style integrated, but it still conveys their soul-esque vie. also gorillaz and mgmt. are great examples of guys who keep their own sound while using electronic instruments.

I was in the lounge of a hotel, alone, in downtown Chicago a week before Christmas when this song came over the radio. It spoke to my broken heart and I've never forgotten that feeling of hearing it for the first time. She was supposed to be there with me enjoying the holidays in the big city. I went on the trip by myself despite her backing out and telling me she couldn't do this anymore. This song played in my head over and over the next few days as I wandered the city reflecting on our relationship over the last few months. I'll never be able to hear it and not think of her or that Christmas in the Windy City. How I wished we could back it up and turn it around, but sometimes life happens in ways you don't want.
