Hi sorin thank you for your TV repair videos I've just fixed my first TV It was the psu Using multi meter I've used your methods and found that a schottky dioid Was faulty. Took out 3 diodes in parallel mode And tested out of circuit Found one of 3 faulty Voltage going both ways. Manage to find data sheet on Google And replace with part from a spare TV psu dioide with same specifications . And bingo Red standby light came to life. Brilliant teacher We saved more TV 's for scrapheap 😎👍

I love how you take the time to analyze the problem and then troubleshoot it using your brain. Too many people start replacing components without thinking it through. I'm glad to see that you are happy to provide that experience with others on the channel.

I recently repaired that board, only I had burned out ic 1q001, I didn't see anywhere on the net that it was burned out, it's mostly the case like yours. I had no voltage anywhere on the secondary, everything else was fine except ic 1q001. Greetings, you have my support .CROATIA.

If you're going to re-use 2nd hand components and need to test them so they're within specs, use one of these cheap, $20 LCR-TC1 Multifunctional Transistor, Resistor, Triode Capacitance Tester. The best tool I have in my arsenal.

You should try using an AM radio to pick up the switching noise from the PSU. Such radios can pick up the EM interference that the switching causes.

I guess people get triggered by someone using recovered components, because they think they will die soon. Sometimes the used component is better than the new one, because the older one was from a reputable manufacturer and the new one is a cheap chinese.

Sorin, its not just age that effects you ability to hear the higher sounds. I think its been scientifically proven that females hear better than males, that's why when I'm watching a hockey game my wife can stand behind me for hours (telling me something) and she can hear herself perfectly while I don't hear a thing from her direction... But when my buddy asks me if I want another beer, I hear him right away. I've said for years that I just can't hear high, whinny sounds because I'm a guy.

Sorin. The serial or model number of that tv power supply is written on the board. You could type it in google graphics and see a lot of pictures of that board. This could help you to read CORRECT original capacitor voltage and value. beacuse as you said, you don't know if someone before you, replaced that capacitor with correct parameters. You shoudn't copy his choice without checking.

No, Sorin, it's not better to use a capacitor with a higher voltage rating, because a capacitor with a higher voltage rating will have a thicker separator and this will cause it to have a higher ESR and so such capacitor will not last as long. It's ok to use if that's all you have, but it's not better.
@wefukthenwo
@wefukthenwo 3 жыл бұрын
That's strange. When I test large, high voltage capacitors before I install into circuit, they all have low ESR, However, I find the lower voltage capacitors have the highest ESR and are always the first to drift in tolerance. I do not like using them if I can avoid it. I have been a technician for 28 years. Higher voltage capable caps are always better.
@SinsBird
@SinsBird 3 жыл бұрын
@@wefukthenwo I saw you mentioned that LCR tester, if you're using that, it's not very accurate, just open a few datasheets and you'll see that the ESR gets higher with voltage. The reason why larger higher voltage caps might last longer is that they can dissipate the heat from the ESR better because of their size. To clarify: this is only when talking about same-size caps. If the cap has higher voltage rating but is appropriately bigger in size, it might have same ESR.

I don't see how multimeter shows 0v (short) when you are probing diodes? This is boost converter and the drain of MOSFET is connected between pin of inductor and anodes of those diodes, and source is connected to ground. If you probe between anode of diode and ground, than it is logical that multimeter will show short, because anode of diode and drain are connected at same point, and source is connected to ground so you have closed circuit. But, you are probing with one probe to anode and other to cathode, so there is no closed circuit because cathode is not connected to ground. Weird.
@electronicsrepairschool
@electronicsrepairschool 3 жыл бұрын
It is connected to ground, i said it, thru the big switching transformer, so minus of the diodes and source of the mosfet are sharing the ground from the multimeter point of view :)

Than it's not basic boost converter like those booster used in PFC circuit in TV power supplies :)
@johnbos4637
@johnbos4637 3 жыл бұрын
@@aleksandarjakimov6830 You don't understand how a transformer works. All transformers measure shorted even new one at the factory. Anything connected to the transformer will look shorted because the transformer is just a wire wrapped around a ferrite core. One side of the diode is connected to the transformer so the diode looks shorted but it is not shorted. This is a common mistake made by amateurs who do not fully understand how things work.
@aleksandarjakimov6830
@aleksandarjakimov6830 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnbos4637 i understand how transformers works. But I thinked that this is boost circuit with inductor instead of transformer. Type "boost converter" and you will see why I thinked that multimeter will not show deadshort when you measure between anode and cathode :)

@johnbos4637 3 жыл бұрын
@@aleksandarjakimov6830 It doesn't matter what it is. The fix on anything is simply find the bad part and replace it, not spend the next 6 moths trying to reverse the circuit to know exactly what it does. Most people have better things to do with their life, including Sorin, and that is why he fixes things fast without worrying too much about how it works.
