I love love love what resin can do for counter tops & just about everything! I wanted to tell you a couple of helpful hints; first a lot of people make a frame for the subject to sit in to keep the bottom from dripping & keep the resin in second ;a cool way to “move” the colors you can blow with a straw or air gun or whatever you find that you can blow on the different areas & it blends really nice! So that’s it my 2 cents worth😊 have fun❤

When my hubby and I got married, we ended up with 8 TV trays. 2 people don't need 8 so I was going to get rid of one set. Now I want to keep them all and design something with them lol. This turned out so beautiful. Thank you, Miss Lady, for sharing this video. It was worth watching. I'll have to buy some of the electrical tools you use and that's quite alright with me. :-)

ive been plotting to get some tv trays myself. unfortunately i can't find french blue and pastel pink vintage colored ones. unfortunately i can't do this resin technique because of where i live. however i can improvise with a special paint that has served me well in the past. and prepping the tray top as well as removing it from the tray frame was helpful. will tag a photo of what i create when i begin the project.

Your table is beautiful. Would you mind telling me what you sat your table on to level it
@diytiff
@diytiff 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I sat the table on little wood blocks wrapped with Tuck Tape (tuck tape prevents epoxy from gluing to the wood so I can reuse). Then I used wood shims to level the table.

It looks great! I have limited experience with epoxy, but would it have helped to use painter's tape around the edges under the tray? Or wouldn't that work with that medium? I have three trays; one was a trash find and not a match. I might do this!
@diytiff
@diytiff 5 ай бұрын
Thanks! Painters tape would have definitely help just make sure to remove soon after epoxy cures the longer you leave it the harder it becomes to remove:)

Amazing to watch the formation of this Amazing piece like a Fabulous development of a Butterfly Phenomenal, just Gorgeous, the colors so compliment each other💜 If you had taped it all off under heath, could you have avoided the drips and having to sand?
@diytiff
@diytiff 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes tape would have avoided the drips but it can’t be left too long after epoxy cures because then is hard to remove. You wouldn’t have to sand the bottom but the top I usually do so the primer bonds well since it comes with a shiny top coat.

So the spray paint was just for color not to helps the drips remove easier? I think it was Clara Lawrence who shows a somewhat recent video of an attachment for her heat gun that cleans the drips sooo easily! Been doing mine the hard way! Finished project was amazing thanks for sharing!
@diytiff

Rachael Chase yes spray paint was for color. I’ve seen the heat gun technique but never tried it. Blue tape works well too if you don’t want to cut them out like I did.

Seemed like an awful lot of work, The end result came out really cool! awesome job, Can you tell me How expensive this project was?
@diytiff
@diytiff 2 жыл бұрын
Hello 👋 this project came out to about $50 in cost when I first did it. The table was only $10 (Walmart) after the epoxy, pigments and all the miscellaneous materials it was about $50 at the time. That cost is calculating the amount Of epoxy I used for this project and not the whole gallon. The epoxy is the most expensive part but I usually get the gallon so I can make multiple projects out of it.

I saw if you tape the underside edge with painters paint, those drips will just peal off with the tape.

Hi Tiff, If you wanted to add a sticker to this when in the process would you be able to add it?
@diytiff
@diytiff Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 I would wait until the colored resin coat is cured, then add the sticker and then a clear coat on top, so that the sticker will be permanently sealed. I did a similar video using a decal/sticker and pouring resin on top. I hope it helps ☺️ kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKi6aqiDrrV9pNEsi=Czm9VAQRNAiqbFol

So this was amazing. Just what I was looking for! I am going to dabble is resin as if I don't have enough hobbies. I want to do this for my boyfriend in the Raiders color and possibly add a logo. It would not necessarily be used to eat on. Do you think amazing cast would be fine or should I invest in the kitchen-grade resin? Also is it absolutely necessary to send it first? I have a black table and kind of want that black background. Thanks for the motivation!!!
@diytiff
@diytiff 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I have not used Amazing cast before, but kitchen grade is usually heat resistant so I can put hot plates and cups on it. I sand it so the base coat can adhere, but if you’re not doing a base coat epoxy sticks to almost anything so you should be fine. Good Luck!

How msny coats do you do on these tables? Especially if have vinyl?
@diytiff
@diytiff 4 жыл бұрын
Coat of primer or resin? Coat of primer - one coat is enough, make sure is a bonding primer and that you sand the surface first especially since is vinyl. After primer you can paint a different color as the base if you’d like. Resin - after you’re done with pouring and it cures, always do one clear coat on top for protection.

Does the table have to be sanded? I tried one and the directions said nothing about sanding and it just sat on top of the tray...it’s only been a week but to date, still not dry 😒 I’ve been trying to right the wrong since...
@diytiff
@diytiff 4 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the resin you’re using because each resin has its own instructions. The resin I used says it can be recoated after 4-6 hours I believe, but if I don’t do it in that time frame I have to wait until it cures and then sand it to re-coat it. I always miss that 4-6 hour window to recoat which is why I sand it. Epoxy not drying usually can mean that it was not mixed with the right amounts, or the room temperature might be too cold or even too much pigment. Most times doing a fresh clear coat would take care of the problem. That’s what I would do.
