Will do outlet soon. There is a tricky to et cable around couple studs in fireplace corner frame and wall. I think the easiest way will be outdoor line in conduit. How exactly did you figure out where to put the bottom edge of the plywood on the wall? The plywood/mount looks a little higher than the center of the wall, but your TV looks perfectly center in place. I have to do this with plywood above a fireplace, and I'm having trouble figuring out the measurements and nervous my TV will be too high or too low.
@FixitAll
@FixitAll 2 жыл бұрын
First, you need to know how far the bottom mounting holes of the TV (on the TV) are from the bottom of the TV. As you can see from 3:15 am, I'm running blue painter's tape lines over the bottom mounting holes and measuring the distance from the bottom of the TV to those holes. Then draw the diagram with all measurements at 3:35. I know from my customers that's the hardest part, and they ask me to install it.

I love the video! I am going to do this same thing as I have a similar 3 stud setup. Is 3/4” birch plywood way overkill for the 100lbs tv and mount? Is 1/2” more than sufficient?
@FixitAll
@FixitAll Жыл бұрын
This is a question about your TV mount type. I mean how far from the wall your TV will pull away and stay? My TV can be pulled about 20" from the wall and at this distance so much more heavy force gives to the plywood. If your TV stay all the time 3"-5" from the wall, you definitely can use 1/2" plywood.

My house was built in 1976 and we have a chimney in the family room with rocks and I was wondering if I can put the plywood on top of the rocks. just like you did but on top of rocks. I know under the rocks there is a metal lath and they apply mortar to place the rocks. but before all that I'm assuming they frame all with 2x4 and plywood. I'm hopping that my 1/2 inch plywood will be enough to do the job like you did and my tv is 70" I don't want to end up with a tv on the floor.
@FixitAll
@FixitAll Жыл бұрын
It is difficult to say what is behind the stones. I think you need to ask the local inspectors, they know how such walls were built in those days. If the wall of stones is reliable, and there is nothing behind the stones in the wall, then you can drill holes in the seams between the stones and insert concrete anchors there and screw the plywood. The second option is toggle bolt.

You must be an engineer by trade. Although I admire your passion and ingenuity, it's definitely overkill. This TV mount is designed to mount directly to the studs, which are 16 inches apart in most homes. Theoretically, the mount doesn't even have to be perfectly centered (although we all strive for that), because you can center the TV with the swivel if it's off an inch or two.

The combination of stud alignment and outlet placement just made me say whatever and mount mine off center. The only time it's ever bugged me was when changing to a new TV, go figure; otherwise the TV is perfectly centered, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters, oh, and that there's enough room for a soundbar under the TV.

As you can see at minute 1:50, there are 4 wooden studs in the wall (vertical line of blue painters tape). Two in the middle and left/right away from the paper template attachment. For this size TV (82 inches) it is not enough to use only the two middle studs. So I need to first attach the plywood to the left and right studs and then attach the TV to the plywood. This way the plywood acts as a wider extension plate to reach the left/right studs. Thanks for visit my channel!

As you can see, at 3:13 I placed tape on the back of the bottom bolts and measured from there to the bottom line of the TV. Then I drew the 3:32 plan and marked that distance on the plan/drawing plus added 2 inches to the fireplace mantel. Then I transferred these dimensions to the wall and it became clear where the bolts from the TV would be located and, accordingly, their mounting itself.

@@TheTCOLL Oh, I see. Our TV 82" and vertical hooks on TV (7:33) was just enough wide and perfectly fit at the maximum rail width. If your TV smaller, I think you will have space to move TV a little bit left/right on the rails and then secure TV with the brackets (7:56). As you can see at (8:05 and 8:14) there is no free space between vertical hooks and the rail ends to move our TV on rail.

Ah, a bit hard to see but I think I got it. A 55 inch should have some movement that can be moved right or left (while the TV is pulled out from the wall) then secured where you want it to stay?@@FixitAll
@FixitAll
@FixitAll 10 ай бұрын
@@TheTCOLL I always mount the TV in the center for my clients because of the balancing weight. If you move the TV on the rails one side more than the other, the TV will not be level and crooked across the horizon. Therefore, install it in the middle, pull it out and turn it on its side, because the mount can turn like 7:20 and for your 55" this is quite enough.

Has anyone found the lag bolts that come with the mounts are kind of cheap feeling? I was afraid the head was going to snap off as I was putting it into the stud. Any opinions on wether the supplied lag bolts are strong enough or is it worth it to buy better ones? On this tv mount install would you have still gone to Home Depot if you didn't need to mount the wood, or trusted what was in the box?

I have a samsung the frame tv and I want to mount it up there but the brackets for it aren’t in the center of the tv so the wood that is up there won’t work because it’s in the middle. From my 26 years of work in house repairs, I may say any anchors good for curtains rod, shelves, mirrors, towel/paper holders...etc. But never trust for TV mount installation. Some days it can be on the floor with a big piece of sheetrok. At list your TV mount is fixed flat single plate, - it may work. ROTFL!, ROTFL!, ROTFL! He may as well have left the legs on the TV and just sat it on the mantle. ROTFL! With all that work he put in, that TV should have been at least 5-7 feet from the ground. No shade but as a tv mounting pro of 15 years and business owner of over 6 years i must say... this was EXTREMELY unnecessary, time consuming and most importantly.. LESS STABLE. you could have simply drilled 2 holes in the middle of the bracket and used (2) 4" lags , with 4 toggles to add a little extra hold. (2) 4" lags in an actual 2 x 4 stud are exponentially stronger than 4 bolts into 1/2" of plywood. It was probably 3/4 at first but when you sunk in the bolts it took off about a quarter inch.. you have over 100 lbs being held up by a 1/2" piece of plywood.. id NEVER do that at a customer's home.. i don't care how pretty you made it look.. it wasnt the smartest thing to do. Then couple that with the fact that the more you extend the TV from its base the more force you put on that plywood..up to 6x the tvs normal weight..but hey, makes for good content..i guess..
